Please ensure enrolment forms for instrumental and speech and drama lessons have been submitted to the performing arts office. Tutors will contact parents directly to confirm lesson commencement and will then speak with individual classroom teachers to find the most appropriate time for the lesson to take place.
Over the last few weeks students in Years 2 and 3 have been exploring Chinese New Year. We have been looking at the ways in which Chinese people celebrate new year with food, dancing and music. As part of our study, we have been manipulating Chinese icons associated with New Year to create rhythm patterns, exploring movement associated with dragon dances using scarves and learning some simple Chinese songs and chants. The students have been enthusiastically engaged in discovering facts about Chinese New Year whilst also enriching their cultural appreciation enhanced by some wonderful anecdotes from other students’ family experiences.
Year 3 has been developing their rhythm reading skills using pool noodles to create and manipulate different rhythms. Students had to create rhythms with 4 beats in each bar working out where to appropriately place their bar lines. Once created, the students performed their rhythms to the class.
We are very excited to announce the beginning of our new ensemble for drummers lead by drum teacher Mrs Cassandra Key. This newly formed ensemble met for the first time last week and is looking forward to learning new skills, improving their rhythm reading and working as a team. I am looking forward to hearing them develop over the coming weeks.

Instrumental and speech and drama students who have been learning for a few years are being encouraged by their tutors to perform at an assembly this year. Tutors will assist students to choose appropriate repertoire for their performance and ensure that the pieces are performance ready. Tutors will be nominating students who are willing and prepared to perform in the remaining assemblies for Term 1. If your child would like to perform, please encourage them to seek assistance from their tutor to prepare appropriately.
A reminder that all rehearsals have now commenced rehearsals and the timetable is below.
If you have any questions about the information, please do not hesitate to contact us at the Performing Arts Office at performingarts@kws.nsw.edu.au or 6392 0347.
