SRC News

With the beginning of a 2021; a new year; a fresh start; the KWS Student Representative Council would like to welcome all new and returning students and their families back to another school year. This year, a new class of Year 7s, along with new students in Years 8-11, have joined the KWS ranks and we extended a warm welcome to you all!

We say (with fingers and toes crossed), that this year looks promising and that some normality can finally be reintroduced into school life. Already we’ve had the swimming carnival, cadets and sport starting up, the first Assembly and Chapel since COVID has started, Year 7 Try-Sports have begun, music ensembles re-commencing and many other activities occurring. It is the general buzz of all the day to day happenings, the inter-year hand-ball competitions as well as the reuniting of friends after the break that has brought life back to the school.

With the commencement of term one, the SRC - made up of two representatives from years 8-12 – have been meeting weekly discussing areas of school life that we believe to be important to the students and formulating how we can improve upon these areas for everyone’s benefit. As an overarching plan, we would like to foster a culture within the school centred around encouragement and support between peers, year groups and the school as a collective. With this we hope to increase student presence at sporting and music events to build a supportive school culture and strengthen peer to peer encouragement of all schooling activities. We believe that focus on these two ideas can further help the enjoyment of the students. The group also hopes to build connections with our community, having events with Orange schools and volunteering at the Unity Church with meal serving.

We hope that this gives you a little idea of what we are about as a group and what we hope to achieve. A fortnightly newsletter will be put out to keep all within the school community updated on our plans and ideas.

Many thanks,

The SRC team
