Principal's Message

By Anthony Jackson (Acting Principal)

COVID-19 Update

Thank you for supporting your children and our school staff this week as we adapted to a return to remote learning. We are so pleased to be able to return back to school so quickly as planned. I hope that as many families and students as possible are now connected to Xuno, SeeSaw and our other online learning platforms.

From 11.59pm Wednesday 17 February, consistent with advice for the broader community, secondary school students aged 12 or older, must wear a face mask at school, unless an exception applies:

• in all indoor spaces

• in all outdoor spaces when 1.5m physical distance cannot be maintained.

Visitors and parents must also observe this guidance when onsite at school.

Parent Teacher Interviews / Student Support Groups (SSGs)

Attendance at our parent-teacher student support group (SSG) meetings on Tuesday 9th February were a huge success seeing 182 of our families engage with us. These included: 113 – Onsite; 52 – By Phone; 17 – By Video Conference. Staff will continue to contact the remainder of the families who were unable to attend last week. Students Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are being finalised this week and will soon be available on Xuno under reports and letters.

School Strategic Plan (SSP)

Following our review in Term 4, we now have a new strategic direction for the next four years. This was developed with the review team taking into account their findings from the focus groups, observations and analysis of our school data. This has been launched with the staff on our first curriculum day who have now provided their feedback and input on our future actions as a school.

Our new school goals are:

  1. Achievement: To improve education outcomes for all students.
  2. Engagement: To improve students’ engagement and participation in learning.
  3. Wellbeing: To improve students’ health and wellbeing.

2021 Victorian Australian of the Year

Jackson Parent, proud Indigenous woman and Founder and CEO of the National Homeless Collective, Donna Stolzenberg, was awarded 2021 Victorian Australian of the Year.

In 2014, she had the simple idea of handing out 50 donated sleeping bags to homeless people. That idea has evolved into a nationwide charity.

We are privileged to have the Victorian Australian of the Year as a member of our school community. On behalf of the school community - Congratulations Donna!

$10 Million Asset Management Plan

As many of you are aware, in November 2020 Jackson School was one of many schools to receive $10 million as part of over $3 billion investment for school upgrades from the  Victorian Government.

Phase 1 of our Asset Management Plan (AMP) for the $10 million has been submitted and on Tuesday was endorsed by school council. This outlines our vision for the school and potential future directions for the school. The next phase of this plan will begin in March. More information to come.
