Junior School Student Leader Commissioning

This Friday we will officially commission and present badges to the Junior School student leaders for 2021. Typically, this ceremony takes place during College Assembly however, as we are not able to gather as a whole community at present, for 2021 this will be a Junior School only event. I am sure that the rest of the College will hold these young men in their minds and hearts as they are formally recognised and sent forth to their work of leadership on Friday.

Commendation Awards

The College’s Commendation and Infringement system, as part of the Student Management program, is outlined in the Student Diary. As you know we have high expectations of students and support students to meet and exceed these expectations. We are always keen to recognise and celebrate those moments when students go above and beyond, or on the other hand, when they slowly and gradually persist with the unglamorous tasks that lead to continual improvement.

I would like to congratulate the following Junior School students who have already achieved a Commendation Award by presenting four Commendation Slips:

Leon BurgioChristopher Sukkar
Thomas ColreavyJackson Tan
Aidan MoussaJack Trad
Marcus NasrHugh Trainor
Elliot NguyenLogan Young
Christian Romeo

Special mention to Hugh for earning the first award of the year, and to Jack who is the first Year 5 student to earn a Commendation Award this year. These awards either have been or will be presented at PCP.

MacqLit

MacqLit (the Macquarie Literacy Program for small group instruction) is an explicit and systematic reading intervention program for small groups of readers from Year 3 and up. It provides teachers with a comprehensive sequence of lessons that includes all the key components necessary for effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

Year 6 participants in the program have already recommenced MacqLit for 2021 and Year 5 students began lessons today. This excellent, evidence-based program makes a real difference for students who have had some difficulties with reading, and we are pleased to offer MacqLit at St Patrick’s College. I would like to thank Ms Anne Marie Hertslet for her tireless efforts to identify and screen candidates for the program and for organising the groups and resourcing, as well as the wonderful Learning Support staff who lead groups with dedication and great professionalism.

God bless,

Ben Munday
