Magis report

The Intergeneration research  program continued this week with the year 7.1 Magis class involved. There were many interesting responses from the MercyCare residents.  After next week’s 7.2 interviews, both classes will be guests at a special Morning Tea at MercyCare on Monday 15 March between recess and lunch. The interviews will conclude on Monday 29 March and then students will work on finalising biographies of the residents involved.

We now have full teams (plus reserves)  for the Da Vinci Decathlon which will be held at Winthrop Hall on Monday 29 March for Years 9 and 10 and Tuesday 30 March for Years 7 and 8. Unfortunately because of Covid restrictions the Year 11 section had to be cancelled.  Preparation sessions have now commenced and I would like to thank the following teachers who are coaching the team members in the different decathlon sections:  Mrs Joan Davis, Ms Ylenia Casadio, Mr Nathan Munns, Mr Gerry Cotter, Ms Morgan Ball, Ms Margaret Yoon, and Ms Eva-Maria Catina.  Permission forms will go out early this coming week.

Interschool debating teams will have a special WADL Debating Breakfast next Thursday, 11 March at 7:30am with two key committee members from WADL giving a keynote address followed by workshops for novices and experienced debaters in the Library.  All team members  are required to attend, and forms must be returned by Monday.

The next section of the Magis House Academic Challenge Series, Mental Mathematics, will be held in week 7. The House Spelling championship saw a record 303 entries from Years 7-12, with Loreto victorious ahead of St Louis and Koolyangarra, but Campion, Ward and St Louis all won one year level.  In the final two weeks of term heats for the John XXIII Public Speaking Championships will be held at lunchtimes, with a maximum of two competitors per homeroom for each year group. The grand final will then be held as a major evening event early next term.
