Year 7 St Omer Camp

St Omer is the name aptly given to the Year 7 Camp, as it was the first place Mary Ward joined a community of religious sisters in Northern France before venturing on to bigger and brighter things in her life. Likewise, the Year 7s having just recently commenced secondary school, journeyed to Woodman Point Recreation Camp, where they were challenged individually and as a group; strengthening a foundation on which to build for the remainder of their secondary journey.

The aims of the camp were to help foster friendships, develop resilience and to instill the Ignatian values of being ‘people for others’.

Students participated in activities conducted by the Department of Sport and Recreation Instructors such as rock climbing, vertical challenges, rafting, search and rescue and bike riding, as well as College staff facilitated activities such as 'Escape from Quarantine', fishing, swimming, beach games, beach sculpting and Mr Connellan’s famous quiz night. Along with physical, social, and mental components, the camp also had a spiritual facet with some time for reflection, meditation and mass.

A massive thank you to all staff who kindly gave up their time in preparing for and attending the camp, as well as the Year 7 students who graciously participated with an open-mind and positive spirit.

Geography Field trip to Rottnest

Last week the Year 11 Geography class took their learning outside the classroom for some fun activities on Rottnest Island. Field work is central to the geography course and this was a fantastic opportunity to explore some key themes of the syllabus whilst also developing geography skills.

The concept of sustainability is important for a lot of the topics that we study and we had the opportunity to explore Rottnest as a microcosm for sustainable practices. We focused specifically on how energy, water, and waste is managed on the island whilst also sustaining an important tourism industry.

Overall, it was a fun way of enriching our learning. Well done to the Year 11 geography students and special thanks to Mrs Bell for her help in organising the trip and accompanying us.

Sr Mary Murray Cup Interhouse Swimming Carnival

Due to the lockdown and restrictions that followed this lockdown, our Sr Mary Murray Interhouse Swimming Carnival was forced to change dates. We would like to thank all students, staff and parents for their understanding and support of our programs during this time. As we continue to provide students with the plethora of benefits that come from our House Carnival events, we were fortunate enough to secure another booking at HBF Stadium. Our revised Carnival will take place on Tuesday 9 March, located at the Outside 10 Lane Pool area (entry via Macgillivray entrance)

Due to the change in location and environment, there are a number of important items as follows:

  • Students are to make their own way to the carnival, entering through the McGillivray oval gate. Students may arrive as early as 8.00am. All must be in attendance by 8.20am.
  • Students must make their way to House areas (see map below) and be seated ready for roll call with their Homeroom teacher at 8.30am.
  • Students are required to wear their House Shirt with PE uniform, College hat and apply sunscreen before arriving. Sunscreen will be provided throughout the day.
  • Students must wear only College bathers/quick dry shorts and House swimming caps during competitive swimming events. All visible undergarments must be black or navy. Students wearing the incorrect colours will not be permitted to race. Please note these requirements align with ACC rules and regulations.
  • Dressing up is not appropriate at this event. Students may wear House coloured zinc.
  • Students will need to provide their own food/drinks for the day. There is no kiosk available for students.
  • Students unable to participate should bring a note and inform their House Coordinator and ADP. Assistance with catering and marshalling will be required during the day.
  • Students are responsible for finding their own transport home. Pick up is to be made from the back of HBF stadium. There will be a bus organised to transport students to their NAS games off site and back at the College.
