2021 School Captains

Meet our school captains

Eboney Jackson

My name is Eboney Jackson and I am proud to be one of Reservoir High's  School Captain for 2021.

I have been at this school since Year Seven and it has always been a goal of mine to achieve this position and leave my mark once I’ve finished school. Another goal I have achieved being school captain is that I am the first Indigenous captain Reservoir has seen, but certainly not the last.

I am a proud Palawa women and aim to take recognition of Indigenous people and school involvement in my community further than it has ever been.

My future goals once I leave school is to pursue a career in the medical field, more specifically, becoming a nurse/midwife and work in Indigenous communities.

Some of my interests include sports such as, netball, football and cricket as well as coaching and umpiring for these sports. Sports have given me the confidence to become a leader and to raise my voice when others don’t

Goals are important to me and definitely something I try and stick to. So, my last goal for this year is to create the most memories with my fellow peers and remember how far I’ve come since my very first steps at Reservoir High School.

It is truly an honour to represent Reservoir High as one of the School Captains for 2021. I have attended the school since year 7, and being honoured as a school captain was an achievement I had always dreamed of.

After school, I intend to pursue a career in law, particularly international covenance and human rights law. This primarily stems from my passion and interest in international relations and politics, and the belief that equity and equality are principles of high importance within society.

Outside of school, I volunteer as part of a human rights activism group, Amnesty International. I have also partaken in other activities, such as debating and the McWhirter conference, being one of the foundations first ever Alumni members as of 2020.

I am delighted to serve as one of Reservoir High’s School Captains. I started here at Reservoir in year 8, and since, have come to be proud of the school and cohort I represent.

I’ve always thought I’ve got more than just Buckley’s chance, and because of that, I’m ambitious. One of my lifelong goals is to make a contribution to Australia at large, either through scientific research or through the public service. And I say this sincerely, because I feel indebted for having the opportunity to immigrate to a country as lucky, as fortunate, and as beautiful, as Australia.

That I think, reflects somewhat on my beliefs of leadership. A concept I think is meaningless unless it is imbued with purpose. One cannot lead without a mission. Without which, he/she is simply an opportunist with a namesake or a cool job title.

On a less dramatic note, I do have hobbies. These days, I spend my free time tinkering/programming Arduino modules or my TI-nspire CX II calculator, cycling to the point of getting lost, swimming (occasionally), day-trading (mostly demo), or reading any broadsheet I can get my hands on (preferably the Financial Review or the Age).

I’m not exactly sure how that compares to the many athletes, drama students, or amateur gamers that go to this school, but that does communicate something. Reservoir High is diverse, in its talent, backgrounds, and everything in between. But what I love most is that Reservoir High has many wonderful staff members and a great diversity of thought. Something I believe we should market to our community.
