Senior School Report

Senior School News

Dear Senior School community members,

The term is rapidly ending and the Year 12 students are nearly a third of the way through the year already. Classes have continued to go well and falling into the routine of back at school (despite a short remote learning period last month) has become the norm. Year 12 students have already faced assessment tasks which will contribute to their study scores and ATAR. Students and families should know it is never too late to improve and reach goals set (which hopefully has happened). We understand that academic achievement is not easy for everyone and for this we have support strategies in place through homework club in the library Monday to Friday and specialised mathematics support in F1 on a Monday and Wednesday. If there are any struggles it is important the student communicates this with their teacher. We also encourage parents to contact us with any concerns.

Both the Year 11 and 12 students have undertaken an Elevate session. The Year 11 students spent time looking at their study habits and how to effectively study while the Year 12 focus was acing their exams. Both sessions provided the students with skills to get the most out of their VCE. The Year 12 VCE students have also taken part in Academic Coaching sessions with Mr McNeil and Mr Sinderberry to again get the most out of their final year of schooling.

The VCAL students have been working well on their external placement days and gaining valuable skills to get them ready for future employment or further studies. There is also a couple of large projects in the planning stage to engage them in out of classroom work. The Senior students will be looking at re-designing a garden area near the new Senior School building. We look forward to sharing photos of them once the project starts.

Reservoir High School has a strong connection with La Trobe University. This has continued this Year with Year 12 students taking part in both the Achieve+ and Prepare Program. Both these programs offer the students a unique opportunity to either gain university subject credit (which counts to the ATAR) or possibly university course offers in 2022. The students taking part in both programs have been working well and getting used to university life.

A reminder to all Senior School families that parent-teacher interviews are taking place on Tuesday March 30.  It is crucial that families meet with teachers to see how their child is travelling and what improvements can be made. Especially for the Year 12 students as this can really set up the rest of the year and have a huge impact on what will happen at the end of the year.

A highlight of the year in the Senior School is the Dr Livesey Scholarship presentation. This year it will take place on Wednesday March 31. A detailed report will be in the next newsletter. This allows us the opportunity to congratulate three of our former students but also acknowledge success which has happened with the current Senior School students.

The Senior School team would like to thank the parents/guardians for their continued support and working with us to help the students achieve the best. By all working together we can set up strong foundations for the students to achieve their best and get to where they want to go.

Cheers Senior School Team,
