NAPLAN 2021 Online Tests

This year the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy 2021 (NAPLAN) tests will be taking place for Year 7 and 9 students. All tests will be taken online.

The NAPLAN tests will be held on Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12, Thursday 13 and Friday 14 May 2021. The NAPLAN tests will involve students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 from all States and Territories.

Parents of students at Year 7 and 9 levels are advised that the normal school timetable needs to be altered to allow the tests to operate, and consequently there is likely to be some disruption to your child’s program during this week. Events will be created on Compass and a newsfeed will be provided to parents with the timing of the tests, close to the date.

The NAPLAN tests will assess:

  •  Reading
  •  Writing
  •  Conventions of Language
  •  Numeracy (both with and without a calculator)

All students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. During test week and the following week, catch up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days. These students may undertake catch-up tests on the days in the test week after the scheduled test, up to and including Friday 21 May 2021.

In order to prepare for the tests, each Year 7 and 9 student must be given the opportunity to sit a Practice Test so they can become familiar with the format of the test and also become familiar with NAPLAN Online Platform. These tests are not assessed. The Practice tests will be taking place on:

Year 7 - Tuesday 20 April – Periods 3 and 4

Year 9 - Thursday 25 March – Periods 3 and 4

If your child is absent on the day we will organise an alternate time to sit the Practice tests.

Students may be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer. This is a matter for consideration by parents and carers in consultation with the relevant Subschool Leader, that is Darryl Forbes or Nick Vass. If, after consultation, you decide to withdraw your child, you must sign a Student Withdrawal form. These forms are available from myself, Lea Volpe, and I can be contacted by email on lea.volpe@education.vic.gov.au .

Later in the year you will receive your child’s personal NAPLAN report. The results from the NAPLAN tests will provide an important measure of how Australian schools and students are performing in the areas of reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. The results will be used for individual student reporting to parents, school reporting and aggregate reporting by States and Territories against national standards.

Further information may be gained from the NAPLAN website: www.nap.edu.au  or you are welcome to contact me at school. Also please read the information brochure that will be sent home with your child.
