Happening things at Holy Family

On Friday, the 26th of February Year 6 went to SDSSA to compete in the Inter School Summer Sports. Students competed in either Danish Rounders, Cricket, HotShot Tennis, T-ball or softball.

Everyone demonstrated perseverance and optimism during their games. Even though we didn’t win all the games everyone tried their hardest, worked together and improved a lot! A great example of us using resilience and optimism was in Danish Rounders when we lost the first three games. All our team members got together to practice, organise tactics and collaborate. This resulted in an amazing win of 6-9.

The Summer Round Robin was a great opportunity for the Senior Students to play sports competitively against other schools and to work with other students. We all can’t wait for the next Round Robin!

International Women’s Day

Ashlee (School Captain) and Summer  (School Vice-Captain) represented Holy Family at Avila College this morning. The girls attended the International Women’s Breakfast with Miss King and myself.

The guest speaker at this breakfast was Partricia Nayna Schwerdtle who is a past student from Avila. Patricia is a global health academic currently undertaking a Ph.D. investigating climate-related migration and health. Trish has worked as a consultant for Government, multilateral agencies and NGOs on Climate and Health. With a clinical background and training and experience in health professional education, Trish is also a Director on the board of Medecins Sans Frontieres Australia and maintains an interest in humanitarian research and practice.

During the breakfast we viewed a prerecorded video with Patricia speaking to her audience about inspirational women.

Insights from Ashlee -

She spoke about how special it was to have the experience of a lifetime to work with people who are very inspiring to her. She also talked about how she looks up to her Mum because her Mum was very inspiring, also that her Mum was very caring and giving to others who are less fortunate then her. Partricia has seven siblings and all her sisters were her best friends and had a very amazing bond with them as she went to Avila College.

Insights from Summer -

Patricia was talking about her Mum a little bit and how special she was to her. Patricia’s Mum was very kind, giving and caring to other people. Patricia was one out of seven kids she had a very special relationship with her sisters. We heard alot about Patricia's adventures and the ways she helped other countries such as Africa.
