It has been wonderful to see students back in the Library and borrowing. We have many new books in the library which the students are eager to discover each week.
The Prep students are busy learning the procedures of the Library and how to care for books. They have been enjoying stories and fun activities during their Library session.
The Year 1/2 students are learning where books belong in the Library and beginning to understand how to make good choices when selecting books. We have been discussing our choices and why we made them. They are also practising to retell a story to assist with comprehension. The Year Ones are enjoying borrowing from the Junior fiction section(spinners) also.
All students from Years three to six are practicing choosing good fit books using the ‘Five Finger Test’ and the ‘I Pick’ protocol. Ask your child about this protocol. Explaining it to you will help them to remember.
Thank you for supporting your child to remember which day their library books are due back at school each week. If they wish to continue reading a book, it should still come back to school each week and may be borrowed again. At Holy Family, we have a policy of only borrowing if books have been returned and students must use a Library bag. This helps students to be responsible and learn to look after the books. Please encourage students to borrow, even if they have their own books at home. To explore new and different literature helps to improve reading skills and continue to develop a love of reading.
Thank you for always supporting your children to have a love of reading and continue to
become amazing readers.
Happy reading.
Susan Gleeson and Sarah Cuskelly.
