Principal's Message

Mr Forrest

Well Done With Lockdown

Well done to all students, staff members and parents for making the best of a bad situation with regards to the recent lockdown.   Thanks for doing all the right things so we could resume normal business last Thursday.  We look forward to the announcement of further restrictions being lifted tomorrow hopefully.

Repeat from last week.

I understand that some parents may wish to speak to me but please understand that it is a priority for me to build relationships with students and staff at the moment. I am trying to spend as much time as possible in classrooms. I will, however, open up some times each week to talk and meet with parents. However, if there is an urgent situation, please contact me via the school office and Lorna will be able to schedule a time. I will start these Wednesday afternoon meeting times in week 6.

Wednesday 3rd march  1:45 – 3:45   Please  phone 54 943 011 to book a time slot.

Melbourne Year 7 Camp

Due to the continued threat of COVID 19 unfortunately we have had to cancel the year 7 Melbourne camp.  The year 7/8 camps will now be combined and in 2022 both year levels will travel to Melbourne.   The 2021 Year 7/8 camp will be held in October, Term 4, more details will be shared later in the year.

School Easter Fete – For the Students

After recent suggestions and with the assistance of the Parents Association we are aiming to have a School Easter Fete at school on Friday 26th of March.  At this stage due to Covid restrictions it will be a mini fete as we are unsure whether or not parents can be in attendance.   The fete will begin at lunchtime with a VCAL catered BBQ lunch and casual clothes day,  and activities from each year level.    The Parents Association  are running a massive mega Easter Raffle and are after donations of Easter eggs in all sizes (or money donations to purchase eggs) so they can be organised into prize lots - the more Easter eggs the more winners.  Further details to follow shortly.

School Leaders Investiture Friday

All new student leaders will  participate in a special induction leadership investiture ceremony this Friday  in the KLC during 1A.  A reminder that we have an expanded leadership program in 2021 and the SRC - Student Representative Councilors will be acknowledged on the day but will not receive their badges as we are having an extra off site event for them in the not too distant future. All year 6 student leaders will be presented as part of our new 'Leadership for All' program.   Families are welcome to attend however you must register at the door and wear a mask.   Group photos will be taken at the conclusion of the event.   Please understand that Covid has thrown some of our planning out at the moment and we are trying to catch up. We will endeavor to post a full list of leaders and positions ASAP.

New look Newsletter

We have start a new look newsletter.  Please be patience with us as we are learning on the run.  It does have many new features that we look forward to share with you over the coming weeks.   Things such as photo slide shows and even mini video that we have tried to include today.   We will hopefully be able to workout how to print the new format as well this week for distribution down the street.

Jacka Attacka Swimming Sports 2021

Not since the fall of the roman empire or when David defeated Goliath have we seen an upset of enormous proportions.  It was a fine sunny day at the annual Wedderburn College annual swimming sports but those in the large crowd in attendance didn’t realise that they were about to witness a memorable and very historic moment.  We legendary life changing moments occur you know where you were in the world; whether it was Austria in 1983 winning the Americas cup, the Sydney Swans breaking a 70-year premiership drought, the Chicago cubs breaking a 108-year world series win in 2016 or the world-famous Muhammad Ali defeating George Foremen in his famous rope-a-dope, all these vents as great as they were pale into insignificance to what the world will know as the Jacka Attacka swimming sports triumph of 2021.

Firstly, we must thank all organisers especially Mrs Turnbull and Mrs Earl for their hard work behind the scenes to organise the day and the North Central team on Monday.  We would also like to thank all staff members, students and parents for adding to the fun and excitement of the day’s competition.  A great day of building school spirit was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance.

After the first score tally Jacka had a 12 point lead, 78 to Ansett's 66. Jacka was able to maintain this 12-point gap 157-145 until after the freestyle and first of the dance competitions.  However, after the breaststroke event Ansett regained the lead 332-331.  Ansett was then able to extend its lead to 16 points after the butterfly events 415-399 and it looked like how far would Ansett win by.   After a magnificent BBQ lunch, cooked  by Alan and Ros, Jacka was caught in a siesta and trailed by 17 points.  However, with their backs to the wall and their backs on the water Jacka mounted a comeback for the ages to tie the day on 536 points and make it a scriptwriter’s dream.  Would it be a fairy-tale finish for Jacka, yes it would the primary Jacka students dominated the golden goggle events to win a memorable swimming sports Jacka 586 to Ansett 580.

I have recently had some fun in the prep/year 1 room sharing my favorite book even if it was too loud on the classroom noise level measurement thermometer.  However  yesterday it was more exciting when I was able to participate in a reading of the special prep book 'Do you like green eggs and ham Mr Forrest?  After sharing the story, I was lucky enough to enjoy green eggs and ham for a mid-morning snack.  Thank you, Miss Tanya and Prep/1,
