Welcome to new staff

LCS is pleased to welcome some new staff who have recently been appointed at our school.  Welcome to our new part time Library Assistant, Miss Victoria Lambie who will be assisting Mrs Anna-Maria Dykman in the Library, keeping our resources up to date, collated and in good condition.

Also joining our school is Miss Leanna Mulder who will be assisting Mr Kevin Lund as a Teacher Aide in the Art Department. Leanna will be working with all our Year 7 - 12 students in the art department.  We hope that you find some time to pop into our Library or Senior Art Studio to welcome these two new staff members.

LCS Positions Vacant

Our school has a few vacancies that need filling - check out our website for more information including position descriptions and how to apply.

Kinder PE Joy!

Have you ever wondered what Mr Narkowicz does in his Kinder PE classes? Here's an  excellent picture to show the absolute joy that a teacher can share in a subject. What a shot!!!

Congratulations to Eli Locke

Congratulations to Eli Locke in Year 3 who won first place in Round 1 of the under 10 division of the Motorcycling Tas Motocross State Championships in Scottsdale on the weekend. What an awesome effort and show of skill from a talented Junior School student! We wish him all the best in the upcoming 4 rounds that will lead to someone being named the State champion for the year.

Relay for Life

Congratulations to all those that took part in the Relay for Life recently. It was truly four seasons in a day and our school had 60 brave and sleep deprived students that walked approximately 3,300 laps amounting to 1,320km and raising $3,147 for the Cancer Council. What an awesome effort for such a worthy cause! Thank you to everyone who made this possible and to the committed and inspiring staff, parents and students who took up the challenge.

LCS Science & Engineering Challenge Team Win!

On the 22nd of March, a team of year 9 and 10 students travelled to the Albert Hall in Launceston to compete in the Regional Finals of the Science and Engineering Challenge.

The team competed against seven other schools around the region including:  Scotch Oakburn College, Launceston Church Grammar, Brooks High School, Prospect High School, Deloraine High School, Kings Meadows High School and Launceston Big Picture School.

During the day, they were given a number of challenges to solve including building an earthquake proof building, building a hovercraft, cracking codes, creating a power station, building a Hydro turbine and of course the famous bridge building challenge.

They performed extremely well with a final score of 1560.24 out of a possible 1600 points, beating last years LCS state high score by 20 points!  On individual challenges the team scored first or second on all but two challenges; most notably scoring first place in the bridge and first place in six of the twelve half day challenges. They also scored second in five of the half day challenges.  On Monday the 29th they will travel to Burnie to compete in the State Finals.

We wish the 2021 LCS team all the best as they represent our school and Christ in the next stage of the Challenge.

Making the front page was a real treat for our students as they celebrated their win - here's a link to The Examiner article published:  https://www.examiner.com.au/story/7177831/bridging-the-gap-for-future-stem-careers/?cs=12

Middle School Tech Update

Our Middle school students are exploring new areas in our Design & Technologies workshop. From learning how to operate equipment safely, plan and design projects to preparing journals of their work. It's a diverse area at LCS and a subject that is extremely popular under the guidance of Teachers Mr Lichtendonk and Mr Gracie.  Great to see our students at work in this area.

Year 1 & Year 3 Art

Some of our Year 1 & Year 3 classes have begun some great art projects recently. Miss Vandervelde's Year 1 class made some very lively orange octopus and decorative names while Mrs Spaulding's Year 3 class went into painting mode. Mrs Serrett's Year 3 class also joined in on the action and created some very colourful art work.  Lovely to see our Junior students enjoying some art and craft time in class together.

Kinder update

Our Kinder students have settled very well into their class routines so we took a sneak peak last week in Mrs Russell's class. It was wonderful to find a past student from LCS doing some work experience with students and as you can see it was all smiles!

LCS Swimming and NSATIS Swimming Reports

Here's an update from PE Teacher Mr Ryan Bosker:

Barrow win 3 in a row and the first ever 3-way tie for Swimming Champion!

I have been holding off publishing this report in the hope of presenting the awards at assembly, however, due to the many interruptions this Term, we won’t be holding another assembly until Term 2, so here is the brief report and acknowledgement of the champions and record holders.   We were blessed with a salubrious day for our Yr. 7-12 swimming carnival this year. It was a great day with an excellent atmosphere of fun and participation.

Congratulations to Barrow who were victorious on the day and have now won 3 Swimming carnivals in a row (they are yet to secure the elusive Athletics carnival so will 2021 be the year?).

For the first time in the history of LCS swimming carnivals, we witnessed a 3-way tie for Yr. 10 Girls Swimming Champion. Kiara Sturdy, Erin Clayton and Sophie Strating battled it out all day in the 5 super close championship races, with each of them placing in all 5 races, resulting in them all sharing the title of Yr. 10 Girls Swimming Champion 2021! Well done girls!

A big thank you to everyone who helped officiate and make the day possible.

NSATIS Swimming Carnival 2021

Congratulations to our NSATIS swim team on your performance at the recent NSATIS carnival.  I was impressed with the excellent attitude and sportsmanship of the team members. While we came 5th overall [out of 6], we did have some stand out individual performances and grade group performances and we came one position better than last year’s 6th place.

A special mention to our Yr. 7 Boys who came 3rd in the U/13 Boys Pennant. Well done to Zinzan Farmer, Josiah Bain, Cody Clayton, Liam Short who all swum events in this age group.  A special mention also to Kiara Sturdy who was our only swimmer to place first overall in an event – the U/16 Girls 50m Breaststroke!!

Each individual race is divided into 2 heats of 6 swimmers each (4 heats in Freestyle). The final results are calculated by comparing the times of these 2 heats (4 heats in freestyle) and ranking the fastest to the slowest out of the 12 swimmers (24 in the Freestyle)

Well done to the following students who placed in their races (overall place in brackets)! Detailed results are available on The Hub (Sports Tile>Carnivals>NSATIS Swimming)

SATIS Swimming Carnival

Well done to Erin, Molly, Kiara and Zinzan who made the trip down to Hobart yesterday to compete in the SATIS Swimming carnival. They did a great job representing LCS! A big thank you to Nicky Farmer who transported and spent the day with our team!

The Gigalees visit to LCS

It was a huge treat for our Kinder to Year 2 students to be visited by The Gigalees - also known as Wilma and Daisy.  It was a visit full of games, fun and lots of laughter.  Our students had an excellent time and enjoyed all the comedy that Wilma and Daisy could find!

Year 10 Advanced Audio

Year 10 Advanced Audio design is a popular course at LCS and one that gives students  the opportunity to learn skills in mixing live sound, studio recording, and using music notation software to create, arrange and play music. Taught by Mr Peter Stewart, it's an awesome pathway for those students interested in exploring music production in the studio - an area that is very technical but essential.

If you have a Year 10 student going into Year 11 & 12 this course can be continued in future years.

If you are planning on a holiday/extended trip with your children during school terms please use our Application for Extended Leave form below.  Leave of more than 3 days  needs to be documented by schools so please take some time to read our Extended Leave Policy below (which contains the application form).
