Junior Class - Mrs Creek

We are being detectives in our class this week. How does that work I hear you say? Well, for all Literacy related activities in Reading, Writing and Spelling everyone is learning to take notice of what they see and hear. To write we have to remember our sight words and many foundation students are learning to write down the letters for the beginning sounds of words. To read we also have to ‘have a go’ at words we don’t know and to read fluently all others. Through singing our Sound Waves chant, all students are being made aware of the different letter combinations within the English language. Our Big Book story titled, ‘Windy Day’ provided us with great discussion points around breezes, storms, hurricanes and tornadoes. In Mathematics the Year 1 students are talking about time, and Foundation students counting patterns.  Of course, for our special St. Patrick’s Day celebration you’ll see photographs throughout the newsletter.

Middle Class - Miss Williams

This week the Year 2’s and 3’s have celebrated St Patrick’s Day on Wednesday. We celebrated our school's patron saint, Saint Patrick with a mass held in the church. We also spent Wednesday afternoon completing a fun rotation of crafts, dancing, ninja course, Mintie-wrapper peeling, and sack races, all around the theme of Ireland and then got to have some ice cream with green sprinkles and green cordial. In reading we have been working on making predictions and recalling information through the use of our big book ‘Hunwick’s Egg’ by Mem Fox. In writing we have been working on editing and publishing our stories and have some wonderful stories up on display in our classroom. In maths we have been working hard on module 2 of Stepping Stones, completing work on addition and subtraction.

Senior Class - Miss Walker

The senior class’s text this week was ‘Feathers for Phoebe’ by Rod Clement. We were able to compare texts by the same author and draw out similarities and differences between some of his other picture books.  In Maths we have been working on time, which is a difficult concept to master but an essential life skill and there will be plenty of opportunities to revisit this in the future. St Patrick’s Day saw us all dressed up in our finest green attire and we had lots of fun activities to try after mass. Finally, in writing, we have been working on some news reports so stay tuned!

Little Joey

This week we continue to acknowledge the significant role of the "Brown Joeys" in the establishment of St Patrick's School, and recognised Caleb and Jack with Little Joey awards.  Our Little Joeys receive a certificate, sticker and a voucher/goods donated by a local business.  This week's vouchers were donated by Wimmera Bakery and Cambrelle's.  We are very grateful for the contributions from our local businesses.
