Year 12 Pastoral Guardian

Tomorrow, our Seniors line up at Centenary Pool for their last Interhouse Swimming Carnival.  Our House Captains will be busy in the morning setting up their areas for the day.  This week, the College has been a hive of activity with senior students buzzing around preparing for the event; indeed, the Franciscan spirit is alive and well in the College.  As we approach the final weeks of the term, we may be facing new challenges as parents.  Alongside encouraging resilience, remind your daughter to focus on her wellbeing, keeping fit and healthy with enough energy to manoeuvre the somewhat - at times - rocky road ahead.

As we work together in community, please encourage your daughter to maintain a routine:

  • Regular sleep;
  • A healthy diet;
  • Taking breaks;
  • Going on walks;
  • Exercising before or after school;
  • Using wellbeing apps - if needed;
  • Asking for help when struggling;  and
  • Linking in with support providers.

Most importantly, remind her that resilience is not suffering in silence; it dares to ask for support - simply, a way of preparing your daughter to thrive in a world she will inhabit as an adult.  Hopefully, the challenges she may face will provide an opportunity for her to grow.  So encourage your daughter to build awareness, understanding, and control of her thought processes – an effective way of improving her wellbeing.  Remember: “When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change". (Paulo Coelho)

On a final note, special thanks to the members of the 2021 Formal Committee: Lillian Brady; Madasun Young; Elizabeth Marques; Natalie Kroll; Venezia Gugliucciello; and Rhianna Janas.  Well done!  Congratulations; your abilities to organise and motivate your committee are a wonderful asset to the College.  Your innovation and persistence made all the difference in making this event possible.  Thank you for your continued efforts.

Formal Reflection

The Senior class celebrated a night of enchantment and elegance at the 2021 Formal held at the Greek Club in South Brisbane.  With great anticipation, we eagerly waited for the evening, like a child on Christmas Eve.  Upon arriving at the venue, we were reacquainted with teachers and were greeted by our new College Principal, Ms Samantha Jensen.  The occasion was momentous as we enjoyed our informal interactions with peers and teachers, dressed in elegant gowns and formalwear.  With parquetry floors and city views, the ballroom was magnificently decorated with beautiful centrepieces, themed fabrics, and spectacular lighting.  A special thank you to Mrs Lauraine Janas for your direction in designing and printing the invitations for the event.  Your efforts in producing the invitation were greatly appreciated.  To Mrs Camilla Horn, our College Photographer for the evening, thank you for capturing the essence of the night.  While the event is now behind us, our shared memories will no doubt be cherished over time.”
