Inside the Classroom

Primary

Class 5 has been enjoying their new learning space in the Engine Room. This will be their space for Term 2 as work is being completed to build a new bathroom and laundry for their classroom.

Classes have been enjoying weekly outings and activities. Class outings are a great opportunity for students to access the community and to develop social skills and interact with their peers in a different environment.

On Thursday the primary classes and staff will participate in the annual Easter Hat Parade. Students have been busy making hats in classrooms for this event.

Stage 4

Class 6 and 7 are settling into their new learning spaces in the Library and Hall. This will allow for the construction of a new shared bathroom and laundry during Term 2.

Cooking has also been a challenge as the kitchens are part of the construction site. Lucky the Cafe is close by.

Term 2 will also see a change in staff.  Class 6 teacher Ms Karyn Dive is leaving Anson Street School and moving with her family to Sydney. We wish her all the very best of luck and thank her for the care and support she has shown to Stage 4 students this year.

Science with Mrs Griffen.

Here class 14 are performing experiments with pendulums as part of a unit on the Physical World and Forces.

In Material Technologies this term, students have worked hard to design and create a calico carry bag. Students were asked to recount the process.

Kulaia:

We drew up the design on paper and then transferred it onto the bag. Next I chose how to decorate my design by selecting buttons and paint colours I liked. I used a needle and thread to sew on the buttons that I selected, only needing help to secure the flower ones.

My favourite part of the project was seeing the finished design.

Alex Potter:

First we looked in magazines for ideas that we liked, I then looked on the computer with Joey to find more things to make the design complete. Joey and I worked together to make the pom-poms, we watched a You-Tube video and learnt how to make them. I then used paint to paint the horse show and my name. I picked my own buttons and staff helped to sew them on. I used a hot glue gun to stick the pipe-cleaner down.

My favourite part was making the pom-poms!

Stage 6

Stage 6 have had a very busy and exciting end of term 1 enjoying Harmony week activities, the swimming carnival and harvest. Some stage 6 students have started their studies at TAFE and work experience has commenced with selected students in the community.

Students acknowledged Harmony week by wearing orange clothes, creating a stage 6 harmony tree sharing facts about different cultures and participated in a cultural cook off. Class 1 cooked Australian meals, Class 2 cooked food from the USA, Class 3 cooked food from Canada and Class 4 cooked Italian foods. Students also celebrated World Down Syndrome Day by wearing crazy socks.
