YEAR 10

PERSONAL LEARNING PLAN

WORK EXPERIENCE

Earlier in term 2 saw year 10 students participate in the Work Experience Program. The Work Experience Program is a part of our Stage 1 Personal Learning Plan (PLP) course. The program offers and provides students with a range of opportunities, including developing employability skills, strengthening career goals and identifying pathways for Year 11 and 12 SACE. Furthermore, students in the lead up to commencing Work Experience, participated in 5-hours of Work Health and Safety Training, where they learned valuable lessons about safety in the workplace. Upon completing the training, students received a WHS Certificate and credential to add to their resumes.

The staff at Aberfoyle Park High School, made visits to make observations on how well students were progressing during their work placement. Students participated in a range of industry areas, such as mechanics, barbers, paving, design, robotics, hospitality and medicine to name a few.

Julia Mikhailova’s shared experience

During a period of time from 3 May to 7 May I had work experience at New Venture Institute (Flinders at Tonsley). During the week I had to participate in a range of meetings and a lecture. Through those meetings I have developed a better understanding of listening, communication, problem solving skills and mostly importantly developed an understanding of how New Venture Institute supports and provides opportunities for start-ups’ growth and Flinders students’ enterprises. I found this experience extremely interesting and helpful as I was able to work with a range of different people and learn about all the different components of business development. I learnt more about business management, start-ups’ issues and pathways, technologies used in product creation and students’ role in future innovations. As an assessment of my skills and understanding of business concepts I had to write a report. This task included conducting primary and secondary research about business clinics and start-ups, then interviewing three eNVIsion members about their start-ups and would they be interested in the business clinic.

THANK YOU TO THE WORKPLACE PROVIDERS

After returning from Work Experience, students were asked to write ‘Thank You Letters’ to their supervisors and workplaces, a part of the assessment task in PLP. On behalf of Aberfoyle Park High School, we would also like to acknowledge our gratitude toward the Workplace Providers who offered our students placement. These include:

ROUND TABLE PRESENTATIONS

In week 7, the final PLP Assessment Task concluded, where students reflected on their PLP journey in a Round Table Presentation forum, and presented to their PLP Teacher and families. It was evident students have made personal and professional growth since commencing the PLP program. Parents/caregivers often provided feedback about their child’s development since our last event in term 1, particularly around students developing confidence and making informed decision about their chosen career pathway.
