Principal Introduction

.

Dear parents, carers and students,

As we start to settle into 2021, and students find their routines and re-establish the learning behaviours that will ensure their success for the future studies, I wanted to reflect on the Colleges’ focus on the Positive Education Framework – THRIVE.

A significant part of this work is supporting students to understand and develop their character strengths. The https://www.viacharacter.org/ strengths survey is a free tool allowing students to understand where their character strengths lie and in turn develop their strengths. There are 24 different character strengths ranging from Bravery, Gratitude, Honesty and Teamwork. We all have an individual profile and bring different strengths to each and every day. I encourage you to take the time to do the survey and commit time to compare your results with your child and discuss ways to continue to build these strengths.

Today I wanted to discuss the character strength of Hope, as the College starts to build its 10 year strategic plan and vision for the future we keep hearing of wonderful stories related to Hope. The character strength of Hope has to do with positive expectations about the future. It involves optimistic thinking and focusing on good things to come. Hope is more than a feel-good emotion. It is an action-oriented strength involving agency, the motivation and confidence that goals can be reached, and also that many effective pathways can be devised in order to get to that desired future.

As a College we hope to build the relationships that support every student to achieve their best and access their pathway of choice. These relationships extend to our parents and community members, we know that the aspirations and success of our students is found in the values and beliefs of their parents and carers.

Our College is proud of the improvement journey we are on and we encourage every student to consider the role that they play in ensuring that we continue to build on our strengths. Students are able to accelerate our improvement by being great role models, having high levels of self-respect, engaging in the THRIVE curriculum, demonstrating the THRIVE behaviours in class and in the community, supporting the learning success of others and ensure that they wear our College uniform with pride.

We are a great school because of the community approach and the commitment of each and every member of community to being their best.

I hope that you have a safe long week end,

Kind regards,
