Dear Marian Community,

What an eventful Term 1 we have had so far, with only two weeks left we can already see that 2021 is shaping up to be an enormously successful year. Over the past two weeks, we have had a variety of experiences and expressions of faith and service at Marian Catholic College. The success of Harmony Day, Reconciliation and the continuation of donations to Project Compassion, genuinely demonstrates what it means to a member of the Marian community.

At the beginning of the week, our College participated in the Rite of Reconciliation. We were blessed to have seven priests from our Diocese to grace us with their presence and guide our students through their confession. We were also very fortunate to have Sr Theresa and Sr Tricia from the Sisters of Mercy support our students prepare for the sacrament, as well as lead those not participating through a spiritual reflection. It was wonderful to see all classes participate and witness our Marian community undertake this Holy Sacrament. On behalf of the Faith Team at Marian Catholic College, I would like to thank all who participated in bringing success to the day. Without the support of all within our community, days like this would not run as smoothly as it did.

In my last newsletter articles, I have been enlightening you on the importance of Project Compassion. The reason for this is because of the pride I have in our College bringing to life the Marian Spirit through this initiative. We only have two weeks left of the College term to collect our remaining donations, so if you have not yet donated, this is your chance to contribute and show compassion for communities in need. A gold coin donation will go a very long way. To date our College has raised $2218 and with two weeks to go, I am confident that we can achieve a new College record of donations raised.

Finally, Friday was our annual Harmony Day and what a spectacle it was! With seven diverse cultural performances and a broad range of food stalls, Marian was able to bring to life our rich multi cultural tapestry. Marian Catholic College yet again, not only did you demonstrate that we are a vibrant faith community, but that we are a vibrant community that embraces, celebrates and has pride in our diversity. The amount of work that has gone into bringing our Harmony Day to life is astronomical, with rehearsals starting as early as our opening weeks of the year. It was an incredibly moving experience to see the talents of our students and the pride for their culture flowing through them and throughout their performances.

Personally, one of the greatest sights to see was looking down the hall and seeing the smiles and emotion filled faces of students and staff. I would personally like to thank the efforts of Mrs Blanco, Mr Blanco, Ms Lole, Mr Rizzeri, Ms Tappi, Mrs Turunen, Mrs Griffiths, Miss Polimeni, Mr Morris, Miss Comarin, Mr Segrave and Mrs Segrave. Without the efforts of these committed staff members, days like Harmony Day would not be as successful or even possible. I have also included in this article a video that was collaboratively put together by staff and senior student leaders with a focus on inclusivity. We are Marian, we embrace our uniqueness, celebrate our differences and strive to accept and respect everyone.

Keep up the great work you do Marian, two weeks to go make every moment count!
