THE GREAT BOOK SWAP 2019

Collingwood College Library hosted the Great Book Swap on the 21st  August to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) vision to lift literacy levels and instil a lifelong love of reading in students in remote communities.

We have raised OVER $700.00 and we will do it again next year. This was our 8th year of the Great Book Swap and raising money to buy books for children in remote communities.

‘We believe all children in Australia deserve the same opportunities – in education, employment, health and well being. All evidence tells us that literacy is the pathway to CHOICE for these opportunities, and BOOKS are the building blocks for literacy.’ (ILF director Karen Williams)

Thank you for your generosity with book donations and thank you to everyone who bought books.

Students from Grades 1-6 have written to Readings to thank them for their generous support of our Book Swap. Here are some samples:

On behalf of Collingwood College, we thank you so much for your generous donation of books for our book swap.

I personally love reading and always get books from the book swap, so it was fabulous to have even more books than usual. Thank you so much!

Matilda, 3/4B

On behalf of Collingwood College we thank you ever so much for your kind donation of books to our school’s book swap. We will always remember your kindness as it will encourage us to read more. You are a kind and generous gentleman and we are extremely grateful. We hope all your dreams come true.

Zoe 3/4A and Ida 3/4B

Dear Readings,

When I saw all the books at the book swap I wanted them all. There were so many magical books. Thank you for all you have done to get these books for us.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT NEWS

Student Voice

All Year 7-12 International students recently attended organised well-being meetings and completed a survey on their school experiences at Collingwood College.  The aim of the survey is to provide opportunities for our students to reflect on their experiences and provide feedback to the International Students’ Team in order to identify successes and areas for improvement.

Thank you to all students involved for their considered responses.

Juggling Balls

Language Centre students enjoyed a creative afternoon of making juggling balls last week!  This required them to work collaboratively and carefully follow instructions to make the balls out of balloons and rice.   They then concluded the activity with a juggling competition! A fun introduction to procedural writing.

Snow Trip Recount

On Tuesday 20 of August 2019, my school Collingwood College arranged an excursion for international students in the school. That was a fun day. International students from year 7 to year 9 participated very enthusiastically. The language Centre students also participated and with three teachers. They are Lori, Felicia and Angie. This was a snow trip and we learnt a lot of things when we went to Lake Mountain. I have a lot of friends from this trip. We left at 8:50 and by bus went to the Lake Mountain Alpine Resort. This was the first time I saw snow.

First, we went to the cafeteria to put the bags and clothes in there. We then went to reception to hire the boots because the snow would have made my shoes wet. The instructor told us somethings before going out. Outside was very cold. It was colder under the mountain. We exhaled fog. Everything become more interesting. The instructor gave us the toboggans.

Then, we went to the summit slope to go tobogganing. We took. I was very happy when I went tobogganing. Tobogganing made me smile. This was also the first time I went tobogganing.

Next, we took a lot of photos with Lori, Felicia and my friends. We played for about 1 hours and then we went to the cafeteria to have lunch together.

During lunch, we talked about a lot things on this excursion. We shared food together. I felt very happy about this

After that, we went outside again and played. Is was 12:30, we made the snowman. I found t
