ROGAINING: the sport of long distance cross-country navigation - teamwork, endurance, strategy and map reading.

34 adventurous AAFC cadets accepted the Victorian Rogaining Association’s Challenge of a 6-hour Rogaine near Castlemaine on Sunday 24 June. After departing MGC at 0700hours, we arrived at Campbell’s Creek, registered, received our maps and quickly planned our route to find as many checkpoints as we could within the 6 hour timeframe. At 1000 hrs the approx. 400 Rogainers all departed the “Hash House” and scattered into the surrounding forest. Yes, we got lost, but we found ourselves again and kept having lots of fun whilst wandering along tracks and occasionally through the Goldfields near Chewton. 1600hrs was the cut off and we all got back with time to spare! The points were counted and not only did we achieve the top 3 teams in the Junior Girls competition, but we also won the AAFC Golden Boot Trophy with our top two teams scoring more points than any other Squadron from around Victoria. Thanks to the VRA and our support team for getting us there, running the event and making sure we were safe throughout. It was a great way to spend a Sunday – maybe we might do one of the 24 hour Rogaines later in the year! See the VRA website for their next Rogaine, some are even in the city!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to CCPL Cousins, LCDT Carey, Casey, Palamara and Perkins, who attended a 2 week promotion course in RAAF Laverton.

All our candidates did amazing and we're so excited to see what these new leaders will bring to 414.
