Junior and Senior Vocal Soiree

Congratulations to all students who performed in the Vocal Soiree on Wednesday 31 August.

Both junior and senior students who study singing, performed and entertained audiences with selections from classical, contemporary and jazz repertoire. Students took to the stage with both confidence and poise, performing pieces they've been working on throughout the year.

Singing teachers Mr Coutts and Ms Wasley were incredibly proud of each student and enjoyed watching the students develop their craft in a performance environment.

Here's a reflection of the event from two of our Senior School students:

Avah Quinn and Maya Wimalasundera, Year 9

The Kilvington Vocal Soiree was an amazing event showcasing a vast variety of music styles and voices.

The range of fabulous songs sung, from enchanting and delicate Disney songs to expressive Italian opera pieces, highlighted the many different and unique talents of our vocal students.

After a year of hard work through lockdowns and tricky online lessons, the students felt a sense of accomplishment and pride at performing in front of a live audience.

While it was certainly nerve-wracking getting up in front of a crowd to sing after two years without performing live, it was also an enthralling experience, and one that has helped many music students grow in confidence.

Immense thanks to the Music staff and to Ms Carmel Slater, Ms Gina Gataveckaite and Mr Jake Amy, our accompanists for the evening.

Congratulations to everyone who performed on the night - you were so enjoyable to listen to!

String Concert

Jude Teo, Year 10

After two years of almost no musical performances, many students and parents were delighted to hear of the recommencement of various concerts this year. The String Concert held at Dalton Hall on 7 September was no exception.

Ranging from the Years 2 and 3 String Program, all the way to the Chamber String Orchestra, the event attracted many family members and friends to the audience, adding to the atmosphere and creating a full house.

The concert featured multiple impressive ensembles directed by Darko Kolosov and Vanessa Neagle, with equally remarkable solos accompanied by Carmel Slater and Gina Gataveckaite.

While performing, students were able to exhibit the results of their hard work and practice, both individually and within ensembles, resulting in a variety of dazzling performances.

The reappearance of the annual String Concert with a live audience was welcomed by everyone involved, and the return of the Concert next year is anticipated with much excitement.

VCE Unit 4 Music Recital Performance

On Wednesday 14 September, the VCE Unit 4 Music Recital was held in front of an audience composed of teachers and parents. Six students from Unit 4 performed a variety of instruments and styles of music which ranged from contemporary to classical pieces.

It was a delight to watch our extremely talented students perform. Congratulations to Lin Yatsuzuka, Isabel Croker, Kevin Nguyen, Asteria Chen, David Overton and Franco Lin. A big thank you to our Music teachers and accompanists, Ms Gina Gataveckaite and Mr Jake Amy.
