Junior School TOMs team - Honours award

Tania Whitehead, Dean of Junior School Operations

Congratulations to the Junior School Tournament of Minds (TOMs) Team who were awarded an Honours Prize (coming in second in the state) at the Victorian State Finals on 11 September, narrowly missing out on selection for the International Final in Canberra.

The Team, consisting of Years 5 and 6 students: Nirvi Bijwal, Riya Konkepudi, Milta Lu, Marcus McGloughlin, Ginger Shen, Akshayini Pritam Wadhwani and Myrah Bhargava, were at La Trobe University from 8.30am until 6.00pm.

They had three hours to prepare a response to the scenario they were given in the morning in relation to their chosen discipline of Social Sciences. This included brainstorming, writing a script, creating props, choreographing and performing - an amazing effort!

During the three-hour preparation time, they also had to participate in a ‘Spontaneous Challenge’, which added to their final score.

I am very proud of the students for their wonderful effort and hard work. Special thanks go to Angela Sharp and Margie Luxford for their guidance of the Team throughout the process, and for giving up their Sunday to support the students. Thank you also to Head of Junior School, Lucas Collins, for coming along to watch the students present in the afternoon.

ELC to Year 10 Art Show

John Knap, Acting Academic Dean of Visual Arts

On 31 August, we saw the triumphant return of Kilvington Grammar School’s ELC to Year 10 Art Show.

For the first time in two years, Kilvington was able to host the annual exhibition face-to-face. While online exhibitions have served a purpose, you can’t truly appreciate the detail, texture, colour and vibrancy of artworks without experiencing them in real life.

Each art/design student from ELC to Year 10 contributed to this incredible show of artistic talent and skill. The official opening night saw a packed Dalton Hall, with many proud students, parents and teachers in attendance.

The exhibition was also well attended throughout the rest of the week. During Opening Night, the ‘Paintbrush Award’ was given out to well-deserving students from each class group.

With the vast amounts of incredible work produced and showcased, it is obvious that Kilvington has a high number of creative and talented art and design students.

The exhibition represented the importance of student learning through creativity, thinking, culture, community and experiences. The highest purpose for the work exhibited at this fantastic art show was to inspire, to connect and to evoke emotion in the audience in some way, big or small. This was certainly the case.

Congratulations, and thanks to all those who were involved in this amazing event.
