LITERACY PARENT HELPERS

A big thank you to those of you who joined the Literacy Parent Helper morning. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to get together, have a chat and wander through the classrooms to see Literacy learning in action!

If you would like to help in the junior classrooms during Reading time from

9am - 10am please follow the steps below:

  1. Apply for or renew your Working with Children Check (WWCC) here.
  2. Update your information on the following WWCC Google Form.
  3. Read through the Literacy Parent Helper Information and Guide.
  4. Share your availability via the Junior Literacy Parent Helpers Google Form (by Monday 22nd August).
  5. Your child’s teacher will share a roster with you in the coming weeks which we will refer to this term and next. Please notify the teacher if you are no longer available on a particular date.

Keep in mind there will be another Literacy Parent Helper Morning for families of Year 3-6 children later this term or early next term, so keep an eye out for those dates!

We look forward to welcoming you into our classrooms. Thank you for your ongoing support. It is much appreciated.

SPEECH PATHOLOGY

Our speech pathologist, Adele, will be spending the upcoming weeks with the Foundation students. Through her observations and assessments, she will suggest options for

speech and language support for Term 4. Through collaboration, a plan for whole class, small group and/or 1:1 support will be created. This support will be targeted and specific to the needs of the Foundation students.

Term 4 is a great opportunity to provide another layer of support as the students have had time to settle into school life, they have adjusted to the routines and expectations of the classroom and have developed a readiness to learn.

We look forward to working together to best support all students’ learning here at St James.

BOOK WEEK

To help us celebrate the inspiring work of authors, illustrators and publishers, whilst continuing to nurture a love for reading, we will be celebrating Book Week next week!

A dress up day will be held on Friday 26th August, where students are invited to dress up as a beloved book character, author, illustrator or in a costume related to this year’s theme; Dreaming with Eyes Open.

There will be a parade in the morning in the main yard, at 9.15am (weather permitting) which families are invited to attend.

On this day, students will also participate in activities with author/illustrator Mark Wilson. A big thank you to Ann Nicola, our librarian, for organising this special incursion. Our students will enjoy this one!

Kind regards,
