Zones of Regulation

As mentioned previously St James has begun to implement the Zones of Regulation Program.  The Zones is a systematic, cognitive-behavioral approach used to teach us how to regulate our feelings, energy and sensory needs in order to meet the demands of the situation around us and be socially successful. Below you will see information shared from our staff workshop on why we believe the implementation of the Zones of Regulation is such an important program to add to our curriculum. This program will run in conjunction with and support our Respectful Relationships SEL program.

Our students are being taught the language of what zone they are in. You may have heard them referring to this at home. You can see an example of what feeling correlates to which zone in the picture. Our students not only use Ripple as a wellbeing check in system but they also use the Zones Check in system. Knowing and understanding which zone they are in allows them to recognise this and helps them to create a set of tools and strategies that can help them to regulate when feeling dysregulated.

It is an exciting and important addition to our already fantastic Student Wellbeing program at St James.
