FLO

This term at FLO, we have been busily engaged in a wide variety of learning activities and tasks both at school and out in the community. At our FLO campus we have almost completed the wall mural with local artist Jace Rogers among other projects. Lots of our students have secured work experience out in the local community, and we have also enjoyed many trips out on country where students have planned these trips themselves as part of our applied learning subject. Here are a few snippets from students of what we have been up to!

As our applied-learning project at FLO we are building a scooter/skateboard ramp for our project. It's a good opportunity because we get to try doing new things and learning new skills. Today we are going to Oni to check out the ramp there and learn more about how to build a ramp and what materials we need. It's been great to work on this project at FLO.

At FLO we cooked some naan bread that was pretty much raw. It was raw because we didn’t cook it for long enough, and maybe we could have rolled it out thinner.  We also cooked a potato curry, the potatoes were rock hard and we tried to light the electric stove with a lighter. Overall it was a pretty fun experience it was probably a 10/10. By Indi Gordon-Smith

I got work experience at Sprout Bakery this term. Sprout is a bakery at the mill in Castlemaine.  I  help shape the bread, dough and also chop some dried apricots and prunes for the fruit loaves and probably some other things. I also do that thing where you dip (blanche) spinach in boiling water and then I cut it finely for the spanakopita. Other jobs that I do include painting the milk buns with an egg wash to make it golden brown and I have to do the dishes sometimes. I enjoy working there because I like cooking and it isn't too overly specialised. By Ace Edmonds

At the FLO campus I am making music with another student and it’s pretty cool. My inspirations are Whatever Dad, Daniel Johnston, The Beatles, Greta van Fleet, AC/DC, Black Sabbath and my dad. I work on solo music as well as in a band called On The Fence with fellow FLO student, Kaylah. We go into the music rooms at FLO and practise original music and also some covers with Jem, one of the teacher’s aides. By Sam Harvey

At FLO we went out to Doxa camp in Malmsbury for the day. It was a great experience. It was good to work as a team with the students. All of the activities were fun and exciting because they were different from school. The giant swing was the best one or the crate stack activity where we worked as a team to build a stack while two people were strapped to harnesses from a cable up high. By Lara Fry
