SCIENCE WEEK

SCIENCE WEEK - Happy National Science Week

Day 1 at KSC (Monday).

Year 7 students kicked off our BIG week of Science activities with a very busy day learning from Burra Foods Australia, Flavorite and GippsDairy as part of the RACE Gippsland project. Thank you to those who visited our College and shared their knowledge with the students, and for Flavorite for hosting a visit to their vast glasshouses. A BIG thank you to Molly O'Dea and Mrs. Witton for the logistics and planning of our day.

DAY 2 (TUESDAY)

Year 8 students explored some careers in agriculture today (particularly the dairy industry) and heard from Jol Dutton, a field officer from Saputo with a wealth of agricultural knowledge and experience. Students tested a range of different types of milk, and used their own "shaking" power to turn fresh cream into delicious butter. Thank you to Burra Foods for the donation of cream to make butter, and to Molly O'Dea for organising a great session for the Year 8 students.

DAY 3 (WEDNESDAY)

It was the staff’s turn to enjoy a Science Week treat today. It was Mad Scientist Morning Tea! They took a brainbreak and enjoyed a science themed morning tea prepared by the Science domain staff (and some other generous staff). Thank you to those who contributed. It was a delicious way to spend Day 3 of National Science Week.

DAY 4 (THURSDAY)

Science Week Explodes

The Year 10’s are about to begin the Chemistry unit in Science. And as part of Science Week activities, experienced a variety of chemical reactions in the form of explosions. We had a visit from Tim (an ex-student of KSC), who explained the different types of pyrotechnic explosions and how he became a pyrotechnic expert. A big thanks to Tim (and Chris) for taking the time to visit us.

There were many ooooh’s and aaaah’s, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed this chemistry demonstration.

DAY 5 (FRIDAY)

The KSC Year 9 cohort visited Korumburra Primary School and Karmai today as part of promoting Science Week to our community. Groups of Year 9’s developed and studied mini experiments to present to small, very excited groups of Prep and Grade 1 students (and kinder kids at Karmai). The Prep/Grade 1’s (and 3 and 4 Year old kinder) moved from group to group learning and experiencing some amazing SCIENCE!

A wonderful way to wrap up a busy and AMAZING week of Science at KSC! Congratulations to the hard working Science team for making the week extraordinary!
