Foundation Students Use iPads to Assist in Literacy

An important aspect of reading is the students’ ability to retell what they have read. Developing their comprehension and retell skills has been a key focus for the Foundation students.

This term the students have been using the iPads to record themselves or a partner retelling a book that they have read. This allows for the students to do a retell right after reading a story and it also provides concrete evidence of what they have done when working independently.

The student is able to watch back their recording and use their Retell Bookmark to check if they have included the Characters, Setting, Beginning, Middle and End.

The teacher is able to review their retell and it can even be shared with the rest of the class.

Each child has been provided with a Retell Bookmark to prompt them with what to include in their retell; Characters, Setting, Beginning, Middle and End.

This is an activity that your child could be doing at home on an iPad, tablet or phone. They are able to work independently and then review their own work and try and make it better.

Happy Retelling :)
