My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. Colossians 2:2-4

As I read this scripture, where Paul describes his desire for the church at Colossae, it jumps off the page as a shared goal for our students at Heatherton Christian College. Oh that, empowered by a Christ Centred culture, students at Heatherton would find their hearts encouraged, and be surrounded by relationships exhibiting love. That they would find joy and wonder in discovering mysteries, wisdom, knowledge and in being equipped to continue that journey well beyond their Heatherton years.

A Christian education is to be “Education on Purpose” because God has a purpose for each of us. We join with the child to grow in and respond to God’s purpose for each child (e.g. Ephesians 2:10). I love the way a book I recently read described learners:

  • Called to serve in creative responsibility
  • Curious and courageous learners, to explore God’s world and live out the hope of Christ.

This fits so well with our school vision for students to be Growing in Christ, Striving for Excellence, Influencing the World

So, whether it be in English, Mathematics, E-School, Music, Science or an excursion, … may we see a developing of the mind, a captivating of the heart and an equipping of the hands, all bound together, in Christ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Learning in the Light of Eternity
