Budja:

It was a busy week in kinder with our Budja class!

The children were fascinated with the new addition to the trickle stream. The water ramp was used all week, with the children tipping, catching and working collaboratively in this area. There was a lot of scientific testing occurring also, with the children attempting to slow the water down with rocks, bush small boats down each level with just one bucket of water and pour multiple buckets in at a time to observe the results.. let's just say that this was definitely a learning experience where we were able to reflect on how to stay dry!

We celebrated Book Week on Friday, the children were beaming with excitement as they came into class dressed as a character from a story or movie. As a part of Book Week, we discussed the concept of characters and storylines and then looked at how stories can be similar, different and the same in different formats- such as in reading a book and then listening to the audio book version.

A few other areas of note were the blocks and small group games, the children worked incredibly hard with the blocks, cooperating, collaborating and creating some incredible structures.

With the small group games, it is incredible to witness the turn-taking and flexibility that each child was able to engage in as they participated. There was also such a wonderful supportive and encouraging aspect to how each child participated and celebrated each others success.

Marram:

At Kinder we don't need an excuse to engage in literacy - our children cherish listening to stories at group times, looking at books (alone and with their peers), plus don't forget literacy also includes singing, talking, writing and playing - all of which we love. However, it's always nice to put a special spotlight on reading, which is exactly what we did this week. Children brought in their favourite books to share with everyone, and dressed up as their favourite book characters! The highlight was participating in a parade with the entire school. It was a very busy event, but our children did a wonderful job in listening to instructions. We're very proud of them. Being able to join the older students in exciting events is a fantastic benefit of being a part of the Mount Pleasant school community. Thank you so much to our families for supporting your children and our kindergarten for Book Week!

Gawarn, Wimbi and Dharug:

What a fantastic Book Week! We celebrate Australian children's literature by dressing as children's book characters and reading our favourite books, promoting early literacy skills! Early literacy skills include wanting to look at books, following narratives, recognizing print, learning vocabulary and identifying letters and sounds. This week, Gawarn, Wimbi and Dharug dressed as their favourite children's book characters and were invited to show and tell in front of peers, building up confidence. On Thursday afternoon, Gawan had a very special experience participating in the school parade and recognizing that they are part of the school community. Throughout the celebration, we fostered a love of reading early on and gave the children the foundation they needed to build strong literacy skills, which are crucial for success across the primary.
