Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

What a brilliant Book Week! Thank you to all our families for their support in organising costumes for Thursday as well as coming to our parade in the afternoon.

In Reading this week, students have been hard at work learning about reader’s theatre scripts. As a grade, we constructed a rubric listing the essential elements when you are reading aloud, including expression, voice projection and listening to others. It was brilliant to see students referring to their grade rubric when rehearsing with their peers. This was a great way for students to practice their public speaking skills before our Guided Inquiry performances later in the term.

For Writing, it was fantastic to see students engaged in constructing dialogue for characters. Some students even challenged themselves to create a readers theatre script using their understanding of dialogue in different text types. We also investigated punctuation, practising how to use the first two levels of the VCOP Pyramind.

During Mathematics, the 1/2 students have been exploring division and some ways that we can share values into equal groups. We have focused on using hands on materials, and simple equations to record our thinking. You might like to ask your child to show you some ways that they know how to solve division problems at home. Look out for our division think board this week on Seesaw!

Guided Inquiry this week saw us find our groups and choose a script for our presentations in the coming few weeks. Students in 1/2 will be creating a puppet show which will be presented to the Foundation students, Mrs Streitberger, Ms Nelson and Mr Shaw. The teachers were impressed with the communication and teamwork skills students have been displaying and we are so excited to see the finished product!  For Wellbeing, we were fortunate enough to have Healthy Harold visit the junior school! Students were immersed in learning opportunities around staying safe, what is an emergency and what to do in an emergency. You might like to ask your child where they can go for help if they were in an emergency situation.

Have a great week from the 1/2 Team!

Mrs Danes, Miss Glen, Mrs Martin, Miss Molloy, Mrs Seadon, Mrs Moroney and Mrs Tang
