Term 3 Week 8 2022

Child Safe @ MPRPS&K

As part of the new Child Safe Standards, we have been updating our policies and procedures to ensure they meet all the requirements. The Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy was the latest policy that was taken to staff, student leaders, SRC and School Council. This policy provides an overview of our school’s approach to implementing Ministerial Order 1359. It informs our school community of everyone’s obligations to act safely and appropriately towards children and guides our processes and practices for the safety and wellbeing of students across all areas of our work. As part of our work around this policy we designed a poster to display across the school, which clearly identifies people in the school students can go to for help. We will review this poster with students and discuss at our school assembly.

We need your help....

Our renewed school vision needs a picture.

To provide a safe, innovative and engaging setting which inspires students to achieve personal growth and feel empowered to make a positive impact in the world around them/

We need your help! This week students across the school will be asked to create a visual/draw a picture for our school vision as part of their Home Talk. Families are encouraged to join in on the process and help their child with some ideas or even dust off their artistic skills to help recreate the vision through a picture. All A4 pictures will be displayed in the school hall and will contribute to creating our MPRPS School Vision visual.

3D Printers Arrive @ MPRPS

Our 3D printers are up and running! Mr Dix and Miss Wang have been busy setting up and experimenting with our 3D printers. Follow our school Instagram page to see updates about this and other exciting things happening at MPRPS! If there are any parents/carers that have particular skills in using 3D printers we would love your expertise. Email the School Reception if you are keen to help.

Our first creation!

In Memory of Russell Moore

We take this moment to remember our colleague and community member.

Russell had been our Maintenance person for two years, but had often completed tasks around the school for many years previously. Just one example was the huge job of carpeting the old building hallway floor that he and Sue completed, to bring it into the future.

Russell became a well loved member of the MPRPS&K family and established amazing relationships with staff and students alike. We were very fortunate to have such a kind and generous person on our staff, who really understood how schools work, and no request was too much - from attending our Working Bees, working in our Kitchen Garden and always making sure the lawns were mowed outside class hours.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Sue and family and have made sure they know we are thinking of them at this time.

Thank you to our MPRPS&K community who have sent such lovely messages to the school. We have and will continue to pass these on to Sue.

Book Week

What a wonderful week we had celebrating Book Week! Students were eager to engage with a diverse range of texts that were nominated for the Children’s Book Council Awards in their classes. We also held a Junior and Senior shared reading event, where all teachers chose a book to read and students decided which one they wanted to hear. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to see teachers as readers and learn about different text preferences.

On Thursday we held our annual Book Week Parade. Did you work out the staff theme? Students were quickly onto the Where’s Wally theme. We were very lucky the weather cleared up for us to be able to hold the parade outdoors. Harry Potter seemed to be a popular choice among students but it was also great fun to see how many other characters could be recognised throughout the parade. Thank you to the student leaders for running the parade so seamlessly with support from Miss Campbell and to Mr Jenkins for providing the music.

Although Book Week is technically over, we have one more activity to go! On Tuesday each Learning Centre will have a session with the author, Michael Wagner. We look forward to hearing all about his sources of inspiration and how he works through the writing process.

Huge thank you to Katrina Chooi our English School Improvement Leader who organised our week and author visit.

Tournament of Minds Update Following on from a successful day at the Tournament of Minds competition at Deakin Burwood on Saturday 20th August we have some exciting news to share. Firstly, we thank all  the four teams for their commitment to preparing, collaborating and presenting their long-term challenges.  They were also very excited about presenting their spontaneous challenge which they are still continuing to keep top secret!

We have been notified that the Arts team have been invited on a wild card entry to participate in the state final on Sunday September 11th at Latrobe University. Further information will be provided to the parents of the students participating.

We wish Ivy H, Brandon L, Sophie, Zoe G, Nishtha, Samanvi and Natasha all the best when they represent our school in two weeks’ time. Congratulations on the invitation!

Father's Day/Special Person's Day

Here at MPRPS&K we have always been aware of how we include and support all families regardless of their make up. This year we are trying to be more obvious.  Students will still have the opportunity to attend or not attend the Father's Day/Special Person's stall to purchase a gift and activities in class will also be addressed in the same manner.

Great Book Swap

All the money we raise as part of our Great Book Swap is used to fund the Indigenous Literacy Foundations Book Supply program, which reaches over 400 remote Communities. This year the ILF aims to raise $150,000 to gift 15,000 culturally relevant books to Communities that need them the most.

A big thank you to all those families who have donated their pre-loved books, we have managed to fill a total of 6 large boxes with assorted books. This week we will begin sorting the books into the following categories - Junior and Senior, in preparation for our Great Book Swap on Thursday 8th September

Last week to log PRC books!

The Premier’s Reading Challenge closes this coming Friday the 2nd September.  The total number of MPRPS students who have completed the Challenge has already surpassed 2020’s total by 40!

Students from Foundation to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books and Years 3 to 6 are challenged to read 15 books.

Congratulations to all three Foundation grades who have joined 1/2G & 1/2K in completing the Challenge! It is also great to see 5/6s leading by example, with the majority of grades only needing 2 to 3 students to now complete the Challenge.

Please keep logging your books.

In the last week of Term we will be awarding 7 more $25 Dymocks book vouchers. Teachers are on the lookout for students who have read the most books or completed the most reviews or showed persistence in completing the Challenge.
