News from Around the School

Congratulations Mrs Gauci!

Not many people can make the commitment to join the '200 club' in a sport, but this is a milestone Mrs Gauci has now achieved.  She recently ran her 200th parkrun at the Altona Beach course and Mrs St Leon and Mrs Marshall were there to help her celebrate.  Good on you Mrs Gauci, you really are extraordinary!

We would love to see more children and their families at parkrun which is a free, community-run 5km event, held every Saturday at 8am from Apex Park.  You can walk, skip or run and enjoy the fresh, morning air.  It's a great way to kick-start your weekend and we hope to see you there!  Click HERE for more information about parkrun.

Time to Wear School Hats

Queen of Peace is a SunSmart school and all children and staff are required to wear school hats when outside in terms one and four. Sunglasses are optional. Our aim is to protect children and staff from exposure to too much UV and help minimise future skin cancer risk.

The Uniform Shop sells bucket hats and legionnaire-style caps and now is the time to get prepared!  Purchase via Quickcliq, (orders are then filled on a Thursday).  Please ensure hats are clearly labelled, preferably with child's surname. More information on the school's uniform policy can be found on the QoP website.

Parents and Friends

Wow what a Disco!!  The kids had so much fun after years of not being able to have social events!  Thank you so much to Melissa Bartolo for all of your hard work in organising such a successful night.  We would also like to thank all parents for your patience and understanding when picking up your children, while we are learning our new “Covid normal” for events.

Thursday 1st of September will bring our Father’s Day stall and all children will be given a bag from their classroom teacher to be able to place their Father/Grandfather/special person’s gifts in.  You may also have your child bring in their own bag if you prefer!  Note gifts will range from $1 - $8.

Next term will bring our Colour Fun Run so get your running shoes on and get ready for some messy fun!  Further details will be available via Operoo closer to 21st October when the event takes place.

Please keep an eye out on Seesaw as the P&F has it's own profile for any future notices. This will help separate our notes from the School Office's.

Have a lovely weekend,

Fay Forde

(P&F President)

Emmanuel Visit

On Friday 26th, we had the year 7’s from the Notre Dame campus come out to speak to the year 5 and 6 students about life at Emmanuel. QOP students then were able to ask questions about what year 7 is really like from the students.

Prep Transition

Please see attached invitation to the School Preparation & Transition online parent forum being held via Zoom on Wednesday 31 August at 7pm, to share with your families.

This session, facilitated by Early Life Foundations, is suitable for families who have decided their child is going to school next year.

Book Week

Once again we have held our Book Week parade where children dressed up as their favourite characters. This is a lot of fun and helps bring kids most cherished books to life. To help your child appreciate the power of imagination and creativity, and to encourage them to continue to read.

We held the Parade in the Hall and there was a great deal of excitement had by all.  It was wonderful to see so many parents watching also.  Some photos below.

Grade 4 Camp

On Wednesday 17th August the grade 4’s headed away to camp Wilkin in Anglesea for 2 nights! We did archery, leap of faith, flying fox and team building games! Was fantastic to be back at camp after a 2 year break! Special thanks to Mr Gibbons, Ms Erin, Mr Menadue, Mr Johnson, Mrs Quarrier, Mrs Arigo, Mrs Marshall, Ms Craig, Ms Turner and Mrs Williams for making the camp happen!

Congratulations Dan!!

Previously we had mentioned that Dan Philip was competing in the Karate National Championships in Rockhampton, Qld.  He  competed against other children his age all around Australia.  Well Dan came first and received a gold in Kumite.  Well done Dan!
