Technology – Food, Textiles and Primary Agriculture

Year 8 Food Technology students are excelling in Food Technology this term. The skills that they are developing in the preparation and presentation of food has been outstanding. Students learnt about the crumbing process and the role of the ingredients in the preparation and cooking of the chicken. Students successfully crumbed their chicken and made a fresh garden salad as an accompaniment. Last week students were challenged in preparing and presenting a two course meal with their partner. Their two course meal consisted of Spicy Tortilla Triangles with guacamole and Brownie. They successfully collaborated and presented very appetising dishes. This week students prepared Nasi Goreng. As you will see in the photos, their attention to detail was outstanding. Next week students will prepare pizza two ways which will be bellisimo!

World of Foods – Technology - Foods

Over the last few weeks students have continued their travels through Europe and travelled to Greece, France and Spain. Whilst in Greece, students made Chicken or Lamb Souvlaki, and Loukoumades - a greek doughnut served with honey syrup sprinkled with chopped walnuts or toasted sesame seeds and cinnamon. Continuing their travels through Europe to France, students had the opportunity to develop their patisserie skills and made Chocolate eclairs. Although there were mixed results with their Choux pastry, it was pleasing to see students shine in the presentation of their eclairs. This week students travelled south of France to Spain and made a traditional Spanish dish - Paella with chicken and chorizo. Students are always highly engaged in their learning in World of Foods, particularly in the preparation and presentation of the dishes they prepare. Students will travel to Vietnam next week to make Rice paper rolls and Bahn Mi.

Year 4/5/6 Textiles

It has been wonderful to see the Year 4/5/6 students back from camp and able to use the skills they learnt at Sovereign Hill. Students have been busy cutting, stitching and stuffing their softies and developing their patience, and persevering when challenged! Keep it up Year 4/5/6!

Primary Agriculture

This week students in Year 2/3 made newspaper pots and planted some seeds. Once the seeds germinate students will be able to plant their newspaper pots into the garden.

Students in Year 4/5/6 returned from camp to find the first mushrooms growing! Students are looking forward to seeing more mushrooms growing over the coming weeks. Thank you to all the students for watering the mushrooms each day.

Year 7 2023 Transition

On Tuesday 30th of August, students in grade 5/6 at Edenhope College, St Malachy's and Apsley Primary schools came together for their second Transition morning at Edenhope College. Students had the opportunity to experience an Art and Agriculture lesson. In Art with Miss Campbell, students used oil pastels, watercolour and of course glitter, to design and create their own personal bookmarks. The bookmarks were then laminated and a ribbon was attached. Students are to be commended on their incredible artistic abilities. After Art students joined Mrs Francis for a tour of the Agriculture areas of the school. The first stop for Agriculture was the Kitchen Garden where students planted some seedlings in the wicking and garden beds. Next stop was the Agriculture classroom, shearing shed and the school chickens. The final stop students were able to visit the school farm to see the sheep and cattle and hear about all the amazing Agriculture program at Edenhope College. Thank you to Miss Campbell and Mrs Francis for providing such engaging learning activities for all the Transition students.
