Edenhope College Mathematics -

Since the beginning of Term 3 we have been implementing Maths Pathway in our 7-10 classrooms. The willingness of the students to try something new has been phenomenal. They have approached the new look Maths Class with enthusiasm and have offered ongoing feedback as we continue to embed new elements of the program.

Both George Walker and I wanted to celebrate some of the outstanding efforts our students have made over the last learning cycle.

These students had an effort score of 100% and over, meaning that they completed their 6 assigned modules or more. This is done both in class and by completing homework.

We would like to celebrate the efforts of:

Year 7: Will Dubois (133%), Riley Honner (100%), Declan Joubert (100%), Levi Linto (117%), Callum Sambell (233%), William Sambell (117%)

Year 8: Mitchell Hateley (117%), Carlos Martin (117%), Jack Nelson (150%),

Year 9/10: James Cordy (233%), Jessica Junor (100%), Izzy Payne (117%), Emma Toms (183%)

Part of our new lesson structures is to explore more problem solving opportunities. We have started by introducing more games and short problems. So we invite you to have a go at one of the puzzles we have been working on this week in Year 7. It’s called a KENKEN.

To solve this puzzle you will need to place the digits 1-4 in the rows and columns, you can not have the same digit twice in a row or column (like Sudoku). The trick is - in the ‘cages’ the parts outlined in darker black you will need to have the digits give the required number that is displayed using the operation next to it. For example, the two top right squares need to equal 8 using multiplication. See how you go! You can find more puzzles and more in depth instructions at the following site:http://www.kenken

Year 8 Science

Year 8 students have been studying the digestive, circulatory, respiratory and excretory system this term. I would like to thank the Edenhope Butchers for supply us with hearts, lungs and kidneys to dissect. The year 8 finish their last practical lesson on this unit of work dissecting rabbits. Maybe we will have future vets, nurses and surgeons. The students and I are grateful that Chloe, William, Wayne and Stacey Dubois organised a successful hunt to supply us with rabbits to dissect.
