25 Year Celebrations

As Term 3 comes to a close, so do our official celebrations to commemorate 25-years of GNLC.

Friday 9 September, we held 25-year Assemblies which all students and staff attended, as well as 70 special guests from our journey throughout the years. The assemblies included the introduction of some new and reintroduced traditions to our College.

Each assembly was blessed with guest speakers, Junior Years were addressed by Brenton and Lyn Schier, foundation associates, and parents. Middle and Senior Years were addressed by our previous Principal, Mrs Jan Baker who shared her reflections during her time at the College.

Mrs McAuliffe reflected on the work, planning, and dedication of those that came before her and make their dream become a reality. Nine Foundation Associates were presented with a key to the College to signify their dedication and passion all those years ago. On behalf of our Foundation Associates, we are thrilled to announce a Jubilee Scholarship has been established and the successful recipient will be announced later this year.

Our special guests were present at the opening of our Junior Years building. The opening commenced with a smoking ceremony which was held by Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation representatives and a blessing was delivered from Bishop Lester Priebbenow. Years 1 through to Years 4 will start Term 4 in their new classrooms.

The Year 5 choir graced us with a performance of ‘How Great Thou Art’ which was enjoyed by all present.

A table blessing was followed by Pastor Janetzki, prior to a lovely meal that was served by the Slovak community from Christ the Lord.

Our Jubilee Gala Ball, the evening of Saturday 10 September, was full of glitz and glamour, with Mr Rodney Latham as Master of Ceremonies.

The first performance featured past and present students showcasing their talents, followed by Bollywood performers, culminating with a memorable performance by members of the Slovak Social Club.

Guest speakers included Bill Kennedy from our early years and Samantha Hills former 2016 Captain and Dux of the College who represented our alumni students.

We were blessed with many generous donations for our silent auction, and funds raised will contribute to the construction of a reflection garden. The centerpiece will be a labyrinth for mindfulness and meditation.

We will let the images from the evening speak for themselves.

We are pleased to announce that by the end of this week all students will receive their 25-year pin and a College shield with their individual house colour loop to connect it to their backpack.

Each family will be receiving a copy of our publication, ’The Good News Story’ (image below) which Mrs McAullife and Mr Baird unveiled at our Jubilee Gala Ball last Saturday evening. The youngest student from each family would have received a copy from their pastoral care teacher yesterday, except for Year 4 students who have been on camp, they will be bringing theirs home the first week of Term 4.

Our thanks go out to everybody who contributed to making these celebrations the success that they were.

To the local business’ that supported us, your support is invaluable to us, thank you again!
