We are proud to have so many talented students in many areas and last week they were showcased in front of their peers and staff during our 25 Year Junior Years and 25 Year Middle and Senior Years assemblies in the gym. From Year 11, Aksa A's design was selected for our 25-year pin, a new college prayer created by Middle and Senior Years Mission and Worship Leaders, the re-introduction and recording of the college song played by the Middle Years band and performed live by our Year 3 students at both assemblies. Year 10 Engineering students recreated each college House emblem and designed a GNLC House Shield, and Year 9 Media students created individual House films which incorporated the history and values of each House.
The College is pleased to announce that earlier this week, your child received the following gifts from the College:
If you have not already seen these, then please check with your students.
The book is a fantastic reflection on the history of the school and a must-read for all parents and students.
During this break, I encourage all families to spend time together. Share a meal together as a family and take the time to talk to your children about their term and goal setting for Term 4. It has been a fantastic term that included a number of camps, excursions, commemorative assemblies, regular assemblies, and chapel services, the opening of the new Junior Years building, Father’s Day celebrations, sport, music, and drama as well as so many other rich learning opportunities. It is important for parents to encourage their children to enjoy some outdoor play during the holidays and to decrease their screen time.
For Year 12’s we have several students that have concluded formal lessons and are not required to sit examinations and will join the workforce or enter TAFE. For the students wishing to attend University and require an ATAR, we have holiday lectures on campus from Elevate Education during the first week and trial exams in the final week of the break. Term 3 will finish for VCE students with an inaugural VCE Formal Dinner held on campus. The year will conclude for our Year 12's with a final award ceremony and Valedictory dinner.
In the 8th Year of GNLC students (Years 4 to 9) taking part in the AGTV’s German Poetry Competition, we are proud to share the fantastic effort and results. After rigorous in-class and year-level competitions, 6 Junior Years students and 5 Middle Years students qualified for the Regional Final.
Our students competed with two schools: Penleigh and Essendon Grammar and Overnewton Anglican Community College. The Regional Final was organised by the German Department of our College and held remotely, with students submitting their recital of a German poem and judges assessing their comprehension, pronunciation, intonation, and overall presentation. The standard of presentation throughout the final was again very high and we are pleased to announce that our students scored 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places across the Year levels.
Two of our Middle Year medal winners qualified for the State Final which was held on Saturday 27 August at the Austrian Club in Heidelberg West. Both Eleasha E and Neilansh V worked hard to further improve their already impressive recitals, their dedication is highly commendable and put them amongst the best students in the state.
Four Junior Years medal winners will attend their State Final on 15 October. We wish them all the best.
We hope you share our pride and joy to see our students showcasing their skills and love for German. We invite you to view the poetry presentations from the two contesting students in the Middle Year Final. This highlights the outstanding quality of German knowledge and understanding our student's display.
