PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Dear Families

School Council:

Last night our Council met for our August meeting. Thank you to all those brave souls who gave up the warmth of their homes to attend.

Issues and decisions that were tabled/discussed include:

  • Out of School Care Fees:  Due to rises in wages (new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement - EBA), inflation impact of food, improving but lower than normal student numbers - the cost of operating our OSHC program have risen significantly. School Council approved a slight increase in fees to cover these additional costs.
The new costs which come into effect on Monday October 3rd.
Prices will increase to $15 per morning session and $22 per afternoon session (per child)
  • Reports from Curriculum, Finance, Principal and Facilities sub-committees.
  • Concert Ticketing Prices: Again, due to budget and rising costs, we have approved a slight ticketing price increase for child and concession tickets. Adult ticket remain as per 2022.
Ticket prices are: $25 per adult, $15 per concession, $10 per child

Filming:

Tonight (weather permitting) the Pakington Street road outside school will be closed from 4 pm to 6 pm for a film crew. Hopefully this will not interfere with pickups at 3.30. If you intend to:

  • Stay to let the children have a play after school or
  • Pick up your child from After School Care.

The bowling club carpark will be unavailable

Please be aware of the closure. If weather stops the filming, the arrangements will move to the 24th August.

(I have worked hard to gain a stand in during the filming with no success!!!)

Retirement:

I have informed School Council and the Department that I intend to retire from teaching at the end of Term 3. I have had a long career at Chilwell PS which I have been most fortunate to have. The school students, staff and families have been most supportive of both the school and myself. I feel very privileged to have been able to be part of your school community. Naturally, I wish to thank all for the opportunity to be part of the school and hopefully I will get the opportunity to express my thanks at an assembly and at the School Concert.

The Department will be in touch with School Council to outline the process for a replacement. I will forward details onto the community as soon as a timeline is developed and further information is available.

Curriculum Day:

In line with the aspects outlined in the recently signed Enterprise Bargaining Agreement we are taking a Professional Practice Day on Thursday September 15th. This will be a student free day as approved by the Department.

Why this day? A couple of reasons:

  • It is the day after the concert when traditionally we have a lot of students who either arrive late to school or do not attend.
  • The Friday is the last day of Term 3 and we dismiss at 2.30 (This is again a Department requirement so the shortened day would not meet the requirements for the Planning Day.

If numbers warrant, we are offering OSHC for the day. The care attracts CBSS support.  Please be aware that the care is only available if numbers warrant so, please book in with Cheryl asap via the Out of School Care phone number or the office.

Thank You:

We have two members of staff who have joined us over the last two years in a Department financed Tutoring Program. Both Laura Stephenson and Sara Hunt have joined our staff so seamlessly and have worked extremely well with our students in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy. We have all benefitted from their professional approach and care. Thank you Laura and Sara.
