Things To

Know

BEFORE SCHOOL YARD DUTY

We would love to thank all families and students who wait patiently in the mornings until a member of our staff opens the gates and officially arrives for their yard duty supervision. We also wanted to sincerely apologise if we have been very late to get to our duties. Staff absences and morning briefings can sometimes hold us up from being on time.

Our staff has the following meeting schedule throughout the week:

Tuesday

- Briefing 8:30-8:45 am

- Professional learning 3:45-4:45 pm

Wednesday

- PLT meetings/Subschools 3:45-4:45 pm

Thursday

- Briefing 8:30-8:45 am

SUN SMART PRACTICES @ RPS

From the 1st September, ALL students and staff will need to start wearing a school-approved wide-brimmed hat.

New data showed that in 2020–2021 we recorded the highest number of sunburn presentations to emergency departments in Victoria since 2016–2017, becoming the second highest number recorded for any year since 2004–2005.

Of the 351 total presentations to emergency departments for the principal diagnosis of sunburn across 2020–2021, 277 were recorded during the summer months of December–February, with an additional 60 recorded in November.

UV damage during childhood and adolescence significantly increases the risk of skin cancer. Our school plays a vital role in helping children and adolescents establish good sun protection habits and clearly, we need to do more to help protect the next generation.

Sun protection is recommended when UV levels are 3 or higher. SunSmart recommends people:

  • Slip on clothing that covers as much skin as possible
  • Slop on SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen
  • Slap on a broad-brimmed hat that shades the face, ears and neck
  • Seek shade
  • Slide on sunglasses that meet the Australian Standard for UV protection

At the last School Council meeting, the Governance committee presented the updated SunSmart Policy.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

A random sample of approximately 30 percent of parents/caregivers/guardians have been selected to participate in this year’s survey.

80 completed surveys is our target to ensure the data is reliable.

We have only 7% completed so far. Please check your COMPASS email if you were selected and complete as soon as posisble.
