QGSSSA WINTER FIXTURES
HOCKEY
Both teams headed to the University of Queensland Fields on Saturday and take on Moreton Bay College.
The MBC Opens team came out fast and furious in Saturday’s round 5 match up. The game started with the first penalty corner of the match. The MBC inserter, sent a smooth pass to the top of the circle, where it was trapped, with MBC hoping to drive the ball back into the goal. Clayfield defended under the direction of Opens captain Georgia (goal keeper), who stopped it from driving into the boards. The defence was steadfast throughout the entire game, preventing many attempts by MBC to convert points. The Clayfield team fought hard against a relentless MBC, finishing the game with a loss 0-12.
The Clayfield Junior team played a friendly game enjoying the opportunity to rehearse their new skills.
NETBALL
Despite the overcast weather, Clayfield netball teams experienced great success on court against Moreton Bay College for the Round 5 clash.
The year 8B forged under pressure, displaying grit and determination with only 6 players for the match up. They came away with a draw 13-13 standing up to the MBC pressure.
Our 9B team dominated the court and had the opposition team under pump after the first quarter. with a very convincing win of 20-8. Massive shout out to Tia Tyler and Kellie Brain for their consistent shooting, and Kaleigha Bain and Bridgette O’Brien for their strong defence.
The Senior B game was a closer than the final score of 7-57 indicated. As is becoming customary for the Senior B’s, what really worked was their attacking combinations and defensive efforts.
MBC fielded an exceptionally strong Senior A team. Whilst our attacking line had speed to burn it also had patience and huge amounts of flair. Quick footwork made it possible to win ball off them resulting in an extremely close game, 29-41. The sideline witnessed fast game play and quick goals at the start of the fourth quarter. Huge shout out to Charli Rose for her sturdy defence.
TENNIS
Disappointingly for the second week, round 5 against Moreton Bay College was a washout with fixtures being cancelled due to the wet weather. Saturday is looking to be a day full of sunshine for the girls to take the courts at the Ambiwerra Tennis Centre for Round 6 against St Aidan’s.
Please note, we are required to reschedule the Round 4 games against Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School. Further information will be communicated shortly.
VOLLEYBALL
Round 5 of the QGSSSA Volleyball season saw our teams return to action to play Moreton Bay College. Clayfield teams maximized on the learning opportunities but had to settle for 3-0 losses, despite ace setting and dishing out digs to keep the score lines tight. Congratulations goes to all teams for rising to the challenge in all of their 5 matches.
Let’s carry the learning experiences into the next round!
The teams have high hopes for round six against St Aidan’s. Fight hard girls!
