All students in the Secondary School are required to wear the winter uniform to, from and during the school day. This includes:
Students who have sport training in the morning need to get changed into their winter uniform before Pastoral Care class. The only exception to this is if a student has a HPE class in Lessons 1 or 2.
Last Saturday evening, fifteen Clayfield Secondary girls joined with students from BBC and Somerville House for a combined ISCF social hosted by BBC. The night started with a chapel service followed by a progressive dinner. There was a fancy dress competition for those who took up the challenge to come as a favourite movie star. A wide array of characters from the Blues Brothers to Barbie displayed the creativity of the students who dressed up for the event.
The final stop of the night was out at Pullenvale for dessert and a bonfire. Unfortunately, due to the showers during the day, the fire didn’t really blaze brightly but thankfully there was a full moon with plenty of light. The open paddock and silver moonlight provided the perfect stage for some of our girls to entertain the crowd with some dancing.
On Wednesday 17 August, as part of our Science Week celebrations we held the College's first annual STEM Mentorship Breakfast. The STEM Mentorship Program aims to connect Clayfield Old Collegians working in STEM related industries with current Year 12 students interested in pursuing a STEM career. Each senior is connected with an Old Collegian working in a field of interest to develop a mentor relationship and receive advice on their chosen career.
Students were treated to wonderful insights on STEM industries and the transition to tertiary study by our guest speaker, Old Collegian Natalia Birch. Natalia started at Clayfield in Year 8 and graduated in 2014. She is currently working in the field of neuroscience with a particular focus on drug repurposing for neurodegenerative diseases. Natalia will graduate from her Masters in Biomedical Engineering at the end of this year where she is currently working on a project that aims to optimise the nozzle of bioprinters to eventually be able to print transplantable organs one day.
We hope to build further the connections between our current students and Old Collegians through wonderful programs like this in the future.

In the second week of the September holidays (26- 30 September) Trial Exams will be run for all Year 12 subjects. The Trial Exam Block will have 3 sessions each day starting at 9am, 12 noon and 2pm respectively. A timetable will be published closer to the date. Whilst these Trial Exams are not compulsory, it is strongly recommended that all students take this additional opportunity to practice their content knowledge and skills and receive valuable feedback from their teachers.
This week, students had the opportunity to extend their knowledge and skills in preparation for their upcoming external assessment for Modern History. Students attended a webinar run by the Queensland History Teacher’s Association where they were guided through how to comprehend, analyse, evaluate and synthesise evidence from historical sources. The webinar was presented by four experienced history teachers who shared their expertise in how to understand the requirements of unseen questions and develop sophisticated and logical responses. Students were provided with the questions, sources and model responses to support their preparation and revision. Well done to all students who attended.
On Tuesday this week, a handful of enthusiastic students undertook the ICAS English Competition. This competition inspires, celebrates and challenges students in English. The questions assessed a range of skills. Students who opted to participate should be congratulated and we look forward to receiving their results later in the year.
