Learning Walk Notes:

Dear Parents and Friends,

On 1/9/22 we held our Whole School Learning Walk. We met as a group with Trish Shaw and Eleanor Rodda and they explained to us what we would see the children learning in the maths fluency sessions.

The session included -

  • Maths- Fluency

As with all Learning Walks, after we spent some time in the classroom we rejoined as a group and discussed 3 key questions. Below are notes from those questions and conversations we had. Thank you to those who could join us. We value and recognise parents’ time and understand how busy life is. Whether you were able to attend or not, we hope the notes below might start a conversation with your child about spelling at home.

What did you see?

  • Students working together, explaining and increasing their understanding
  • Students being kind, smiling, and a sense of success
  • A range of strategies being used by students
  • Students engaged and enjoying themselves
  • Good to see the continuity across the school

How did you feel?

  • Impressed that students were enjoying what they were doing
  • It was fun
  • Enjoyed the learning walk and seeing how learning in maths is happening
  • Good to see them engaged and no one left behind

What are you wondering?

  • Is it better to have maths at a certain time of the day?
  • Do students who need extra support in maths have an intervention?
  • How are Foundation students taught maths from the beginning of the year?

If you have any questions or concerns for teachers please don’t hesitate to contact us at principal@sjbeechworth.catholic.edu.au.

Our next Learning Walk will be in term four.

Thank you, Teachers: Trish Shaw, Mark Butters, Josh Carr, Bianca Vescio and Eleanor Rodda
