New look website to be launched
We are almost there! After many hours of research, planning and preparation, our new look website is about to be released.
Feedback about the old site told us that it was outdated and needed a major overhaul, so our new website is full of video, images and based on the testing we have done, is far more user friendly.
All things going to plan, the new site will be launched this coming Wednesday and we hope for families, it will become a new "go to source" for information about the school and its programs.
Be sure to visit soon and let us know what you think. We would love your feedback, please forward it by email to: communications@nossalhs.vic.edu.au
Important notice about Student Safety
One of the major concerns that is regularly raised around our school community relates to the potential danger to pedestrians, (especially Nossal students) as they walk to school from Clyde Road. There were two components to the fears expressed.
- The speed of cars along Sir Gustav Nossal Boulevard
- The number of students walking with their heads down, listening devices through headphones, oblivious to vehicles.
It is a major concern and due to a number of near misses closer to the university and also on the gravel road linking our northern car park and Intrepid Street.
Drivers, please slow down! This is an area that regularly has a lot of pedestrian traffic and it is only a matter of time before someone is struck by a car when vehicles are travelling in excess of the signposted speeds which are 10kph on the raised, shared pavement areas and 20kph on the other roadways.
Another related issue is the number of drivers who do not obey the standard give way rules. We regularly hear of near misses in the car parks because drivers have not checked on other cars driving through the campus. For the sake of a couple of extra minutes, it is not worth the risk and placing the safety of pedestrians in jeopardy.
The second concern was the number of students who place themselves in danger by not being attentive and do so while breaking the law.
Federation University's security have previously reported that there is a number of Nossal students who walk through Buchanan Park and then through the university car park to go to school. Motorists in this area are looking for a car park and not necessarily expecting pedestrians to emerge from between parked cars. The footpath that runs along Sir Gustav Nossal Boulevard is where students should be walking to get to school through the university campus.
An additional safety problem is the increasing number of students who are walking and crossing roadways while listening to devices through headphones. Drivers report students crossing in front of them and clearly not hearing a car is nearby.
Students look up and be alert to vehicles around you.
Students are also subject to road laws just as pedestrians are whenever they are walking along roads. At a roundabout, pedestrians must give way to all traffic. In the case of the university campus, this includes vehicles travelling through the roundabout inside the front gateway from Clyde Road. Cars entering the car park on the right, making their way towards the Medical Centre have right of way, and students should stop and give way. When lots of students stream across the car park entrance, they not only place themselves in danger, they also cause the traffic to bank up back towards the gate and Clyde Road. Just like a motorist driving faster than the speed limit along Sir Gustav Nossal Boulevard, students crossing the road at the roundabout in front of traffic, are breaking the law. For your safety and the safety of others, only walk on designated footpaths and give way to vehicles at the roundabout.

Level Crossing Removal Project
Site investigations and survey works are continuing in Clyde Road as part of the level crossing removal works.
From Monday 24 February to Friday 6 March, site investigations and survey works will continue at night along Clyde Road at night between 8.00pm and 5.00am. Intermittent lane closures will be in place along Clyde Road northbound and southbound from Enterprise Avenue to Jane Street.
The project team will take every measure to reduce noise impacts, however you may notice some construction related noise and vibration.
Traffic and pedestrian signage will be in place to help guide you through the area safely.
Nossal is getting Crafty!
Help needed! If you have craft supplies sitting dormant at home, please read on…
Returning to the vast array of student clubs and associations in 2020 is a crafting group! They will be creating items for charity as well as personal use/gifting.
Initial numbers are good, with over 40 students and staff showing interest in learning or sharing their skills in a wide variety of crafts.
The only issue is that as a new and academically selective school, we do not have a lot of equipment for these kinds of pursuits. If you have any of the following at home which you would be happy to donate to these very keen students, please let us know.
- Sewing machines (in good working order)
- Knitting needles
- Crochet hooks
- Fabric
- Yarn
- Old wrapping paper
