Prayer

Today’s Gospel reading is one of the most famous and often used readings from St John’s Gospel. During this season of Easter we are called to be Easter people. What does this mean? To put it simply, it means to show respect, care, compassion and love to one another as Jesus taught us.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,

so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world,

but in order that the world might be saved through him."

John 3:16-17

P&F Cocktail Party

Last Friday evening's Cocktail Party was a stellar event with almost 300 parents and staff gathered in sequins and bling.  It was a great opportunity for parents to mix with one another and to welcome new parents into the school.  I certainly enjoyed the occasion and thank all those who came along.  I would particularly like to thank the P&F Association's President, Ms Braelen Zwart, and her enthusiastic team who decorated the Gym in such a beautiful way.  Congratulations to everybody and thanks for a good night.

Interim Reports

The College will issue Interim Reports today for Years 7 to 11 through the portal.  Year 12 are currently completing their mid-year HSC exams and will receive a report early in Term 2.

Term 1 SPX Holiday Activities

During the term break we have a number of tours and activities happening at the school. We wish all our travelling students and staff every success on their tours. We thank those staff conducting other activities such as hikes and Sports Clinics.

  • U/15 NZ Rugby Tour
  • First XI Football Tour to Canberra
  • Junior School Rugby Tour to Armidale
  • Rugby Clinic
  • Football Skills Camp
  • Kokoda Track Expedition Training Hike

New Electronic Noticeboard

I hope that you like the College's new electronic noticeboard. We will be able to put photos and text on the Board as well as streaming footage. It will take us some time to learn how best to use the potential of this noticeboard. Essentially we will be putting reminders of upcoming events and notices of achievements and some well-chosen references to special occasions such as Easter and the like.

I especially thank Mr David Reay, Resources & Facilities Coordinator, who has followed through with this project this term.

Term 2:  Students return in Full Winter Uniform

Please be aware that all students return in Term 2 in full school winter uniform.  Winter Uniform requirements can be found on the Deputy Principal's page in this newsletter.  Should you need to purchase any items the Uniform Shop will be open as follows:

  • Friday 27th April from 9am to 12 noon
  • Monday 30th April (Staff Day) from 8am to 2pm
  • From then on, regular trading hours are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8am to 2pm during term time.

The Collegian

Families will have received the 2017 Collegian this week and it is an outstanding publication.  I especially commend the efforts of Mr Tony Cunneen in compiling this chronicle of the College year.  The Collegian was distributed to the oldest student in the family.  If your family did not receive a copy of The Collegian please contact the College Office.   Year 12 students who are yet to collect their copy can do so by coming to the Administration Office either tomorrow or next term.

University of Sydney – Academic Excellence Award

Congratulations to Daniel Scipioni of Year 11 who was presented with an Academic Excellence Award from the University of Sydney to acknowledge his outstanding academic achievements in Year 10.

Daniel joined a select group of students from across Sydney to receive his award which is an initiative by the University to acknowledge and encourage academic diligence. The award also allows the University to search for future, talented students and inspire them to consider graduate studies at the University post-school.

Congratulations to Daniel for this well-deserved recognition of his academic efforts.  The photo below shows Daniel receiving his medal from the Professor Pip Pattison from the University of Sydney.

Adam Greenwood - Darwin Cricket Tour

Congratulations to Adam Greenwood of Year 10 who has been selected to play for the Cricket Appeal team in Cricket Northern Territory's Mid-Year Carnival.  Players will be competing in five 50-over matches and National Talent Managers will be keeping a close eye on players for higher honours in the future.

Thank you

I wish to express my appreciation to the College Board and the Leadership team for their support of my leave during Term 2. I particularly wish to thank Mr Casey (Acting Principal), Mr Sean Brannan (Acting Deputy Prinicpal), Mr Simon Yue (Acting Head of Student Services) and Ms Alex Foord (Acting Year 8 Coordinator) for their work in taking on new roles and I thank the Leadership Team for enabling this to happen.
