Junior School Communication
With the advent of the College app and the reconfiguration of Woodchatta so the Junior School has its own section, the question has to be raised about the necessity for a fortnightly Junior School Newsletter. Please click on the link below, read the explanation in detail and answer the survey before the 1st May. Thank you for your assistance.
RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Commemoration Service
Thank you to all the boys who represented the college at the ANZAC Commemoration service at Hyde Park. By all accounts the boys were excellent and enjoyed the ceremony, even though it was a hot day.
IPSHA Cross Country at The Kings School on Saturday 7th April
Our Cross Country team ran on a hot day at The King’s School Parramatta but their enthusiasm and energy was immense. In each race there is approximately 160 to 170 boys who are the best from their respective schools. All our boys ran well even though one copped an elbow to the stomach at the start. Who said cross country was a non-contact sport!
A special mention has to go to Joe who kept running even after he lost his shoe. He finished the race with one shoe on but still motoring strongly. I asked him why he didn’t pick up his shoe and his answer was simple, he didn’t want to affect his time. A special congratulations must go to Jacob Magner who finished in the top 15 and is now in the IPSHA team to compete at the CIS Cross Country Carnival. Last year Jacob came 45th but this year he had a look of determination on his face before the race and he came 11th which is an outstanding achievement. Well done Jacob!
P&F Cocktail Party
Thank you to all the parents who made the effort to attend the Cocktail Party last Friday night. The food was plentiful, there were ample refreshments and excellent company. I hope you had a good night and met some new people.
Mother’s/Grandmother’s Day Liturgy for the whole school
On Friday 11th May at 8.00am there will be a Mother’s Day liturgy and a cup of tea and snack. If you can make this liturgy and/or the Junior School Mother’s Day Mass, I’m sure your son would appreciate seeing you there.
Junior School Mother’s/ Grandmother’s Day Mass
On the Friday before Mothers’ Day, 11th May 2018, the Junior School will be having a Mothers’ and Grandmothers’ Day Mass at 10.30 am at Our Lady of Dolours Church, Chatswood. All the boys’ mothers and grandmothers are invited. At the conclusion of Mass we will have a morning tea for all the mothers and grandmothers - not the boys. There will also be a Mother’s Day stall if you would like your son to buy you something. All the goods are made by the ladies of Candela in Peru (a shanty town) and all the proceeds are returned to them.
We need to know numbers so we can plan accordingly. A wonderful day of celebration of motherhood has been planned so if you intend to come to the Mass, please complete the link by Monday 7th May. Mass Link
To all Dads/Grandfathers: if you have some time off to help serve tea and coffee for the Mother’s Day morning tea at approximately 11.30am – 12.30pm that would be appreciated. The mums do a great job of barbequing later in the year! If you can assist please place your name in the question included in the link. Mass Link

School Zones Reminder
A reminder to all our parents ahead of the Term 1 break that school zones remain in place for the safety of our children and families. School Zones operate on all gazetted school days, which are all the days the school is open, even pupil free days. Therefore, be careful on Friday of next week, 13th April when your children have a pupil free day but schools are open.

St Pius X College would like to continue its ongoing support for Liam and his White Knight Foundation. If you are able to assist with any SUITABLE DONATIONS FOR PRIZES for this evening, or perhaps consider arranging your own company/family/friends table then please advise by return email to Rick Russo on rrusso@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au
The White Knight Foundation was founded by Old Boy Liam Knight who, while a Year 12 student at the College, was a victim of a vicious attack where a 2.8 metre steel pole was thrown by a perpetrator and subsequently pierced Liam through his skull. The Foundation raises vital funds to assist young victims of violence and their families on their path to recovery. The WKF is also keen to continue its work in raising awareness of the outcomes and effects that random acts of violence can have, with a particular emphasis on the dangers of teenage recklessness.
Liam deserves our ongoing support, so please get on board if you can. Thank you!

Thursday Sport: at Oxford Falls as per normal. Winter trials continue for Rugby, Football and AFL. Players require full training gear (does not have to be SPX gear).
Below is the schedule for Term 2 Sport:
Cross-Country: Congratulations to all competitors who represented St Pius at the IPSHA event last Saturday. Despite the tough, hot conditions and challenging course, the boys ran very well, placing admirably in the 170-strong competitor fields. We congratulate Jacob Magner (6 Red) who placed 11th and thus qualified for the IPSHA team to race at the CIS carnival in Term 2. We wish Jacob the best of luck.
Rugby: Round 1 commences on Saturday 5th May. All relevant information, including an information letter, season draw and Code of Conduct document have been uploaded to the App and emailed to parents. Please ensure your son is kitted out in the correct St Pius X gear for the season commencement next term.
Rugby Holiday Clinic: There will be a 2 day clinic at Oxford Falls in the holidays for all interested players; perhaps a good way to up-skill for the approaching season. It is on the 23/24 April, caters for all abilities and costs $90. Follow this link to register: https://www.trybooking.com/367460
Rugby Tour: Good luck and safe travels to our touring U12 team who head to Armidale for a Tournament in the holidays. I’m sure they will do St Pius proud.
