Futsal State Championships – Open Girls - Penrith
Game 1: Kimble
The game started with intense pressure set up by amazingly crisp passing by the opposition. However the girls settled into the game with a number of great shots at the goal that were well saved by Kimble. Two great team passing movements saw Kimble score on the only two chances they had in the first half, to take a 2-0 lead.
The second half started with the same intensity, leading to a great goal by Kimble, followed by another quick goal. Finally our girls put an excellent phase of play together, leading to Jessica slotting one in. 4-1 to Kimble. Montana leaped on a loose ball, leaving the goalie stranded and tapped in an easy goal.
Game 2: Richmond
The game started with two bullet kicks by Montana; however their goalie was up for the challenge. The first half see-sawed up and down, with neither side getting an advantage. Jessica was dynamite in the goals, saving a number of great shot attempts. The 1st half ended with four nail biting attempts in quick succession - 0-0 to finish the half.
Ginger shimmied and zig-zagged for a brilliant individual goal at the start of the second half. This opened the flood gates for a Montana show of two quick goals. A great corner cross by Ginger led to a great goal by Claire. Montana and Chloe put on a passing clinic that saw Eliesha score the final goal for a 6-0 win.
Game 3: Endeavour Sports High
The game started slowly, with few chances to score as both teams put in a defensive display of team work. Finally, Ginger sent a great pass to Chloe for a goal in open space however the opposition scored immediately in response - 1-1 at half time.
The second half was a brutal grind of up and down play characterised by the one missed pass or chance from both teams. Critically, Endeavour missed a sitter while Chloe kicked a great ball to put us up 2-1. Ginger fired a long range tomahawk while Montana was always prowling around the goal searching for an opening. Fantastic defence finally tired and they tied it up 20 seconds before the final whistle for a 2-2 draw.
Game 4: Arndell
The game started very evenly however Arndell conjured a goal out of nowhere about half way into the term. Their defence was extremely good leaving us with very limited chances for any goal attempts. A second goal came in transition, showing how good Arndell was in turning defence into offence. Jessica punched a lightning bolt of a shot but it was skilfully deflected over the top of the goals - 2-0 at the half.
Montana finally had some space at the start of the second half completing a deft piece of foot work to drive home a critical goal. The girls piled on the pressure making Arndell get flustered and we started to dominate possession. A nail biting, fast moving contest ensued however none of our attempts managed to get past their keeper. Eliesha also saved three excellent attempts by the opposition - such a close 2-1 loss.
Well done to Chloe Lanham, Montana Walker, Erin Johns, Jessica Burling, Ginger Oliver, Eliesha Kitchingman and Claire Wright. They did the school proud by playing every game with respect and sportsmanship.
