Last week I had the great pleasure of experiencing the extraordinary talent in Performing Arts at Cowra High. The Stage 5 Drama students who performed The Twits gave a delightful adaptation of Roald Dahl’s original story. Aimed squarely at the younger audience, they were spot on target with some primary students so enthralled they could be seen in the audience for multiple performances. Congratulations to Melinda Rowston and her talented Drama students.

The week of student performance included a wonderful Dance Night at the Civic Centre. Once again Alison Buckley and the Cowra High Dancers exceeded all expectations and I was particularly impressed with the wonderful enthusiasm and talent shown by our younger dancers. It’s encouraging to see we have so much quality coming through into the future.

A special “best of luck!” for Francesca Fenton who will be performing her HSC Dance practical exam next Wednesday. I also wish our HSC Drama students the best of luck in their practical examination on the 31 August.

The 72nd POW Breakout commemorations were held last Friday at the War Cemetery with Cowra High Captains and Prefects representing our school at this moving event. I am always proud of the respectful way our students approach this important community event and this year was no different. Following the commemorations Cowra High students were also involved in the launch of the Anita Heiss novel ‘Barbed Wire and Cherry Blossoms’ set in Cowra at the time of the Breakout. We also had the honour of hosting a delegation from Japan who had travelled to Cowra specifically for the commemorations.

Have a great fortnight.
