Anita Heiss launches her book at the POW
Students were fortunate to attend a talk by acclaimed author Dr Anita Heiss whose most recent publication, Barbed Wire and Cherry Blossoms, was officially launched at Cowra’s POW Camp last week.
A novel based on thoroughly researched facts, the unlikely love story examines the relationship between a Japanese Prisoner of War and a local Wiradjuri woman from Erambie.
A most engaging and inspiring speaker, students were captivated with Anita’s journey to become a prominent writer – a career that has taken her all over the world.
We are very proud to announce that Caitlin Howarth, one of our Year 12 indigenous students, was the proud recipient of the Encouragement Award for Excellence in Indigenous Education at the Wudhagaragarra Awards held in Dubbo recently.
Caitlin received this award along with only three other students across western NSW. Caitlin is pictured with her medallion and certificate celebrating with Aunty Robyn Coffey.
Cowra High School is very proud of you Caitlin.
Cowra High students helped celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day last week at Yalbillinga Boori Day Care Centre.
Children’s Day is a time for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to celebrate the strengths and culture with their children.
Our students were fabulous ambassadors for the school reading stories, drawing and playing games with the young children.
