Year 9 Welfare Day

On Thursday 21 July as part of the Wellbeing Education programs at Cowra High School Year 9 students actively participated in the Wellbeing Day based around healthy relationships.

The day was held at the school and consisted of five different sessions which students rotated between. The programs included:

  • STI/Contraception presented by the Sexual Health Team from Community Health
  • Healthy Relationships presented by the Social Work Team from Community Health
  • Drug & Alcohol information presented Drug & Alcohol Counsellors from Headspace
  • Sexting and the Media presented by Cowra PCYC and the Police School Liaison Officer
  • What are Healthy Responsibilities? presented by Cowra High School teachers

The afternoon finished with a ‘Tug-of-War’ round robin which built on many of the skills the students had learnt during the day such as working together, team building and fostering healthy relationships.

Brian Edmonds, Year 9 Adviser said ‘Students now know what healthy relationships look like, in all aspects of their lives. They are aware of all the places and have met the community members they can turn to for help for themselves or for their friends who may need assistance. The Wellbeing Day is a wonderful opportunity for the students to interact and discuss issues that affect them as a year group.’

Cowra High School would like to thank each of the presenters for working closely with our students and offering yet another highly successful and very informative program. We appreciate and value your ongoing commitment to our students and school.

Big Science Competition

During Term 2 students in the Stage 4 & 5 Gifted and Talented classes participated in the Big Science Competition. This competition is an easy way to challenge students from Year 7-12, and track their performance against state or national averages.

Questions test critical thinking and problem solving skills, not just factual recall and are set in real-life, contemporary contexts, making them relatable (and interesting).
