SPX 2nd XI Cricket Team - 29th October
The A teams were brought back to earth by Oakhill teams on Saturday. It’s been a long time since we have lost all five games in one day. I can’t take the disappointment away but I can provide some perspective and a focus for the future.
Despite the A team’s disappointment we still had some fantastic wins across the day. Our 13Bs, 14Bs and 17Bs won their games against Redfield As. Our 14C and 15C teams won their games against Oxley’s As, along with some more great wins in the other divisions.
Game Times Changed
I have had to change a couple of game times at Oxford Falls for this Saturday.

Deserves a mention: 15As just missed out on an upset win over Oakhill’s 15As.

Player of the week: Nicholas Lough (6) - SPX U13 Black, 3/19
1st XI v Oakhill College – ISA Round 2 at Oxford Falls
1st XI hosted Oakhill and had first use of the wicket. A very solid opening stand between Tom Colgan (35) and Joe Unwin (25) laid the foundation for the batsmen that followed. Lachlan Hearne (86) and Will Roser (28) attacked the bowling and by the 37th over the score had reached 2 for 141. A steady flow of wickets followed but Hearne, with help from Sam John (12 no), ensured that the full over were received and an impressive final total of 9 for 213 was achieved. An early run out and a miserly spell of bowling from skipper Dermott Beattie (3/8 off 10 overs) meant that 1st XI was well on top in the 31st over with Oakhill 6/76. Some counter attacking batting from the opposition captain put his team back in the game before some tight bowling from Sam John (2/44) and Lachlan Hearne (1/44) led the team to pleasing 33 run victory.
Congratulations Thomas Ventura (11) – 1st XI player number 628.

News from Round 3: We are certainly very lucky to have the Talus Street Courts as our Home venue – they are really top notch in terms of drainage and ‘play-ability’ in the mixed weather experienced last Saturday. It was great the way that players and parents were so organised and adaptable on a hectic morning given the weather. Special thanks to our players - Andrew H, Adam I and Luke McM who made last minute changes to support other SPX teams, even other schools, which allowed for competitive play to continue in tricky circumstances.
Thank you to our Seniors: Marco, Lucas, Christian and Denis who came along to umpire and encourage our younger players at the 8am session.
Result Cards were submitted by all teams this Round – excellent. I need to hand in cards to NSTA every Tuesday for them to record the Competition results and our progress, so this is very important.
A tough Round 3 for our higher Division teams with some 2-1 set losses (SPX 3 with a BYE). Congratulations to these winning teams: 5, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 19, and 21.
Decisive, 3 set wins to SPX 16 and 17 – well done!
We have 2 rounds to go in this Term 4 Competition with Play-offs and Finals on 19th November. Individual and team results are being recorded by me each week to use for re-grading of our teams that will occur for the Term 1 Competition in 2017.
Good luck to everyone for Round 4. SPX 2 you have a BYE for Round 4!
